MELBOURNE, Australia – U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Congress should act quickly, before new members take their seats, to repeal the military's ban on gays serving openly in the military.
He, however, did not sound optimistic that the current Congress would use a brief postelection session to get rid of the law known as "don't ask, don't tell."
"I would like to see the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" but I'm not sure what the prospects for that are," Gates said Saturday, as he traveled to defense and diplomatic meetings in Australia.
Unless the lame-duck Congress acts, the repeal effort is considered dead for now.

I see this as all by design. I am seriously entertaining a law suit against the President and the DOD over the right of Chaplains to live out their faiths. I will NOT be tolerant of homosexuals saying the choice they make trumps my God given right to my faith which says homosexuality is a sin. It does them NO HARM to say this or believe it but many of them want that right stripped from us all.

My heart does break for them. There’s no doubt in my mind that there are already militant gays and others waiting to enlist for the express purpose of harassing the chaplaincy.
Those of traditional denominations will be drummed out as homosexuals claim civil rights violations over their choice of behavior. Because skin color and bedroom behavior are totally the same thing I guess. Those higher up in the command simply won’t want to deal with the conflict presented and clergy will be treated as the problem.
But yes, I think you’re right that it’s by design to cause conflict and neutralize the faithful in the military.
The more I see and hear of Gates, the less I like him.

Sad but true. Gates appears to be operating on the assumption that he is merely obeying a lawful order issued by his CIC.
My contention is Obama has not produced evidence he is Natural born citizen.ergo I must conclude he is not eligible
for the Office If not eligible for the Office according to the Constitution he swore or affirmed to” Preserve ,Protect , and
Defend” then how can ANY order or desire of his be valid.
We have a right to expect the President to be worthy of the Office, and the certification of candidates to be honest and
trustworthy-in this case nether seems true.

On the day that judge in CA ordered DOD to lift DADT, Gates complained that the military-wide culture survey hadn’t been given time to determine the effects of the change. Now, he says, “Hurry up, Congress, before the new members take their seats.” WTH?
I think some time over the next 8 days...
But anything can be accomplished by issuing an order! At least that’s the attitude I saw when I was in. If DADT is repealed Gates will order the Joint Chiefs to pass the order down the chain, “Be nice to gays.” Problem solved. (Barf)
