Whenever I have flown i set off the metal detectors at the airport. I have metal plates in my skull, facial bones, neck, legs and back. I have shown the pictures of the x=rays to no avail. I have not been on a plane too much recently, I grew tired of the jostling around, getting manhandled from the wheelcahair and so forth. last time I flew from detroit, the airline gave me the song and dance that I needed to have an attendant along with me for the flight. Too much BS. I simply replied i am a former marine and I do not need an attendant. I am independent and do for myself.
Flying is no fun. If i have to travel it is by car or by train. so far it has been quite nice on the train, but that is subject to change.
I’m not so sure the TSA people would give a crap if you missed your plane because of all the opt-outs.
Everyone needs to OPT OUT of these scanners.
The ‘pat down’ line would be so long they would need to change their security tactics yet again.

Your story is very similar to mine.
I get angry at all the hassle and then I end up with two overweight fatsos sweating over me!
I show them the proof that the metal I carry is due to corrective surgery, but then they are so damned stupid their feeble brains are incapable of comprehension.
The TSA broads I draw are 250 pounds and look like gorillas.

Click on the pamphlet tab and print the PDF file on that page (double sided). If you have the time and the toner, print a few before you fly and leave them near the check-in gates or distribute them to the people around you waiting in line.
Same here, I had a pat down last year and it was nothing. A woman (I am a woman) patted down my clothes. Her touch was so light, I have been touched harder in a crowded elevator.
Time for the USA to opt out of flying. Of course the likely result of that will be another bailout for the airline industry.
TSA is a make-work program for high-school drop-outs and a way for the government to exert arbitrary power over the peons.
The TSA Should be abolished. The "Department of Homeland Security" should be abolished and the Patriot Act should be repealed. The purpose of those things is to empower government at the expense of the people.
But if I know FReepers, the response to the above will be something like "You and your talk about power and people and government sound like Islmaofascist-communism. Do you want Osama bin Laden to give you a rough pat-down? I bet you'd like that!"

I quit flying two days after 9/11. It meant working closer to home and driving the vast stretches of interstate for vacations (12 days round trip across 24 states, 4 twice, for an elk hunt in Washington State in 2007). I never realized what I had been missing by flying over this beautiful country, and I will never pay again to be humiliated by any government agency in the guise of homeland security!

Gender segregated aircraft with all passengers flying naked. (My brain burns)!

NO MORE INSPECTIONS at all except for ones like El Al where PROFILERS look for the bad guys. Just think about it, we now have armored cockpits that are very resistant to intrusion. If we allow our fellow citizens on without these carry-on restrictions, then a bad guy will probably be lucky to get 5 feet before he becomes the victim. We know the alternatives and I, for one will be glad to be a martyr to the cause of AMERICAN FREEDOM!
The biggest problem I have with my own idea is that things like the "shoe bomb" are too powerful. If, as they are saying after this latest, Yemeni Shipping Bombs, are true, then a mere 4 ounces of C4 can kill an airliner.
So it is back to "Flying Naked!"

Someone in the Federal govt just read Atlas Shrugged and they're afraid the producers will all leave a la John Galt and his friends.
*If 10% of the travelers (or less) decided to “opt out” every single time, the entire system would grind to a halt. It’s called civil disobedience.*

Want a safe airline? Fly the one that doesn't serve Muslims. Oh wait. The people have been so corrupted in thought that they now eschew clear thinking like that as "discrimination". Damn straight it is discrimination. The bombers are muslims. But oh, no. The 1964 civil rights act and thousands of lawsuits based on that abominable law have turned us into a country where you can't exercise our right to discriminate. They used to call it "free association". Check out the first amendment, clueless government school graduates.
Just turn on Sean Hannity. He'll explain how great it was the LBJ and the Republicans in Congress passed that piece of garbage that eviscerated our rights.
Is Amtrak still around? Maybe they'll get a large uptick in business.
