Oklahoma to consider executing death row inmates with drugs vets use to put down animals

The state of Oklahoma is planning to execute death row inmates with drugs intended for use on animals.

Lawmakers want to switch away from the only brand of anaesthetic that has been used in the US for lethal injections because there is not enough to go around.

The replacement is likely to attract controversy because it is currently used by vets to anesthetise animals for operations.

Other states are watching closely and may well follow suit, but such a move is likely to face a challenge from human rights groups to ensure that it is safe to use.

Here is a method Iread about used at Ft Laramie back in the frontier days.

A soldier was to be hanged for murder. A tall post was placed in the ground with another post fastened crosswise on it but movable, like a trebuchet.

The long arm was fastened to a rope, and the murderer’s neck. When the release was pulled, the soldier was slung into the air and snapped like a whip, beaking his neck instantly.

Why do they make all this so difficult. Build an airtight cell, displace the oxygen with a noble gas. Dirt bag falls asleep, end of story.

Starve and dehydrate the scum. The euphoria the process gives the undeserving scum is a liberal bonus don’tchaknow! If it was compassionate to execute Terry Schiavo that way, how can we withhold such a humane death from the capital criminals? ... It’s cheaper, too.

Years ago, I worked at a Humane Society. They used something called Fatal Plus to euthanize the animals.

I always wondered, "Fatal Plus what?"

I mean, the "Fatal" part seemed to pretty much cover it.

Squeamish governors who don’t want to get their hands dirty. When you think about it, that describes all our politicians. We hire them to do the hard work and make hard decisions, but they shirk their duty all too often.

The fact that this is even possible shows that our legal system is broken.

” Our dogs, for instance, take the same allergy medications that we do. “

When I went to the pharmacy to pick up antibiotics for our dog, before they would release the meds to me,
I had to answer some questions.
They wanted to know Zippy’s birthday.
Well, she was a rescue, so I wasn’t sure exactly which date we were using ,
I knew the year , but, I got the month and day wrong and they refused to give me her antibiotics.
After flipping out at the counter..
I had to call my wife and get the exact date ,
get back on line , and try again.
I’m surprised they didn’t ask for a picture ID of the dog.
I’m sure that will be next with Obamacare.

Why don’t they use a high velocity injection of copper-jacketed lead?

Good question. If done properly, the perp would be dead before he could hear the gun fire. No time to feel any pain.

This is a stupid, liberal smokescreen. The only difference between human and vet drugs is the label.

I’m sure that everyone will believe that major pharmaceutical drug production lines will be shut down, then changed over to the “vet” quality, which is different from the “human” quality, then shut down, flushed, cleaned, sterilized and re-started for “human” quality. Yeah, sure. Basically, the drugs are all made from the same materials, on the same production lines and the packages or labels are the only difference.

Anyone who doesn’t believe this should just go check on the FDA regs concerning the “quality” and production of vet drugs.

Because of different physiologies, different drugs may be used on different animals than humans, usually in different dosages, but the basic drugs are all the same, for all practical purposes. Normal saline USP, Xylocaine, Procaine Penicillin G- all are the same whether for ‘vet’ use or human use. Anyone who’s lived out in the country and raised animals knows that the “drugs” you buy at the feed store for “vet use only” are the same as human use drugs.

But we wouldn’t want to upset the bleeding heart liberal meme of “Oh, we can’t treat convicted murderers like animals and use ‘vet’ drugs on them.” Give me a break!

"But, but, we must conserve our limited resources!"

Back when Florida still used "Old Sparky" the bleeding heart liberals got the Power Company to cut power to the "chair".
A generator worked just fine. . . . . . . . . .

For those wondering if current methods of carrying out death penalties is humane, the best thing they can do is watch a pet put to sleep by injection.

Pets deserve better than animals on death row. Their victims deserved better. People dying of grave illness deserve better. How is it the worst among us get the most pain free deaths of all? It's sick.

If someone is imprisoned for life and can do no more harm to the innocent -

Check your premise

Inmates can and do murder other inmates and prison guards.

Capital punishment is just, and it's right.

If there were never capital punishment there would be no Christianity.

Having been dehydrated and requiring IV treatment I can tell you it’s most certainly not pain free or euphoric. Schiavo, however, was dead already.

Agreed.

We just had to have one of our cats put to sleep the day before Halloween :( They first gave her an anesthetic that in her weakened condition, knocked her out pretty quickly. She was completely relaxed on my lap in a minute or two and when they administered the drug that actually did the job, she was gone in less than 90 seconds.

My cat deserved a nice peaceful death after giving us over 15 good years and suffering at the end of her life. I’m not so sure I feel the same about death row inmates.
