Panel eyes Tricare hikes, federal pay freeze

Tricare premiums and fees would climb for working-age military retirees, except more modestly than proposed earlier by the Bush and Obama administrations. Employers, however, would have to reimburse the government their normal share of health costs if a military retiree on the payroll opts to use Tricare rather than employer health insurance. The aim is to end an annual $3 billion government “subsidy” of what should be “a normal business expense” for civilian employers.

All Tricare beneficiaries including family members of active-duty troops would face a co-payment for office visits, to reduce their “higher than average usage of health care.” Also, a “modest enrollment fee” would be set for all three Tricare options, including fee-for-service coverage under Tricare Standard and the preferred provider network using Tricare Extra.

Finally, Tricare would be subject to PAYGO or “pay-as-you-go” budget deficit rules so that any future increases in military health benefits are paid for through higher premiums, co-pays and deductibles.

It’s still the best deal in town. Reduced my family deductible from over $900 to under $200.

If they force private sector employers to reimburse the costs to the gov’t because a retiree they’ve hired chooses TriCare vs. the employers plan, you’ll see less vets being hired.

I wonder how this will affect retirees. If the employers are dropping coverage or raising premiums as a result of 0care, and a vet has chosen the company plan, can they get back on to TriCare or are they permanenly screwed?

And it ain’t no damn “subsidy”. We vets made a horse trade in the beginning with the gov’t. You [the gov’t] get to use and abuse our bodies for 20 years, then you get to take care of us afterwards.

They knew this day was coming and made no plans to prepare for it. Now they want to back out of the deal entirely.

I have a bad feeling that between this and the talk of eliminating the mortgage interest deduction I’m going to soon be very screwed.

Why is welfare never dependent upon PAYGO rules?

ObamaCare will make everybody suffer but leave the military alone damnit!!!

I HAVE insurance and still get bills in the mail like I don’t.

The illegals that Obama wants to get OCare go to ER’s free while I get a thousand dollar bill WITH insurance.

It is insane!!!

Bit of a nasty turn here

"All Tricare beneficiaries including family members of active-duty troops would face a co-payment for office visits, to reduce their “higher than average usage of health care.”

I see a lot of RIF in the near future and if this keeps up, very few being interested in joining any branch.....
