Interesting article.

Lugar would be a formidable opponent in 2012, despite his advancing age (he'll be 80 in 2012). He routinely clobbers his Democratic opponents by huge margins in the general, and probably would have an enormous advantage in organization and funding against any primary challenger.

Still, it's not impossible. Some of Lugar's stances have infuriated conservatives (big supporter of the DREAM Act, for example). And other voters in Indiana might just be ready for a changing of the guard simply because he is such a long-serving incumbent.

If the “Dream Act” comes up during the Lame Duck Congress and passes — and he WILL vote for it — the Lugar will be extremely vulnerable. In any case, the Tea Party needs to offer Candidates that RUN to the RIGHT of MOST of the mainline Republican Candidates on these issues of Constitutional import. Doing so will remind the Party as a whole that they no longer can rely on Conservative voters by default, and it will certainly DISLODGE many of these old line, old guard country club ruling class elite Republicans who think we somehow OWE them their positions, their power.

No, sir, you all work for US.... And you’re fired...

Whatever it takes. Lugar has long suffered terminal infection of the beltway disease. He is senile, corrupt political mush and needs to be relieved of duty. Go for it Hoosiers. We're counting on you.

I’m a Hoosier and Lugar should be put out of office. He is as big a RINO as McCain, Grahamesty, the Maine twins, etc.

I’d like to see him gone just because he came into PA and supported Sestak. Just for that alone he should be hunted down like the RINO he is.

Maybe Pence could not run for POTUS and run for this instead?

I’m a Hoosier too and I won’t vote for Lugar unless he trims his eyebrows.

“I’m a Hoosier too and I won’t vote for Lugar unless he trims his eyebrows.”

OK! But my vote has nothing to do with his eyebrows!

Not so sure you could call him a Loon regarding carbon trading. From what I read he was a partner in the Chicago carbon trading exchange and therefore would have reaped huge dollars off the poor suckers. I prefer to call him corrupt.

Whenever Sarah Palin talking about RINOs who “go along to get along,” Lugar pops into my mind. His 30+ years in the Senate have been devoted to making friends on both sides of the aisle. Lugar has been in the Senate for more than three decades and what has he accomplished?

Pence will run for Governor or President. He could win Governor easily.

He said he was going to retire and then changed his mind. We hate him, but he has a big machine like McCain.

Our state GOP stinks. They only support jackasses like Lugar.

Seems to be a problem within the GOP.

Lol up here Senators are appointed for life by the Prime Minister. We have 100 year old Senators not even living in the country anymore collecting pensions.

Lugar Hatch, Graham. Three RINO’s we could easily do without.

Add Cornyn to that list.

Lugar Becomes First Republican To Announce Vote For Sotomayor

He was a bit cautious with Kagen... He waited for Lindsay Graham to jump in on that one.

Almost as bad, the only GOPer to vote for this pro-choice Federal Judge:

http://michellemalkin.com/2009/11/19/senate-approves-acornabortion-radical-judge-david-hamilton/

I don’t know that as a prolifer I could vote for him, even if he was running against Jezebel herself! What is the point of saying you are prolife... if you put prochoicers in the judiciary? NONE!

IN Democrats didn’t even field a challenger against Lugar in 2006, so that means it will have been 12 years since he will have faced a real opponent. After that long, incumbents can get sloppy and complacent. He is ripe for defeat in the primary with the right candidate, and after 36 years in the Senate, long overdue.
