The defeat of Russ Feingold in the November 2 election has unexpectedly provided the most uncompromisingly left-wing Democrat in the U.S. Senate with a new job opportunitythat of candidate for the presidency of the United States. Feingold hinted in his concession speech on election night that he might challenge Barack Obama in the Democratic primaries. Its on to 2012, Feingold said, and it is on to our next adventure.
The next day, a spokesman said that Feingold had no interest in running for the presidency, but such a denial is meaningless. The scale of the Democratic Partys defeat and the parlous condition of the countrys finances inevitably raise the specter of a challenge to a first-term president from within his own party. Such challenges have been part of the political landscape for the past half-century. Eight presidents since 1960 have run for re-election. Four of them have had to fight off a significant primary opponent whose key message was that the president had betrayed his partys core principles. In each case, the challenge preceded the presidents eventual ouster in the general election.

Lord, help us!
Gee, maybe he’ll run with McCain....?
Stock up on popcorn!
My greatest fear for 2012 is that the Republicans will nominate someone who is unelectable and that the Democrats will nominate a palatable substitute for Obama. Feingold would go a long way to assuaging that fear.
OH PLEASE!
Please Lord, give us the gift of Feingold challenging Bambi in the primary!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Thx and Amen
I bet Feingold, Hillary, and maybe a few others challenge Obongo for the nomination — if he decides to run. And if Obongo does decide not to run I expect even Biden will try for the nomination too.
Find a dog who’ll eat a dog.
My greatest fear is that the Republicans will nominate someone who can’t even beat Obama.
But there’s no way Feingold or any other white guy will replace Obama.
BTTT!
I expect four challengers; Hillary, Feingold, Brown and Sharpton. Hillary and Feingold will be serious about it. Brown will challenge because he’s like a moth beating at a streetlamp and probably figures “Hey, if they were stupid enough to elect Barack, I must have to have a chance”.
Sharptoon will run on an “I’m blacker than Barry” ticket and because it will give him a lot of airtime and plenty of campaign donations to steal.
He probably wakes up every morning amazed that he’s not in prison yet.
