Lisa Murkowski has officially pulled ahead in the race to be Alaska's next senator.

The latest numbers from Juneau show Joe Miller with 90,458 votes. That includes 10 write-ins credited to him.

The Division of Elections has counted 92,164 votes to Lisa Murkowski.

That number includes 7,601 votes challenged by the Miller campaign.

Ballot counting is finished for Monday.

Elections workers and volunteers will return Tuesday and continue to pore over ballots. Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell says that could continue likely until the end of the week.

Absentee votes represent the last big batch of outstanding ballots from the Nov. 2 election.

This is good news. He’s still got all the military ballots.

If there were enough ballots misspelled then Joe should continue with his lawsuit.

Naw, another Babs Mikulski, only a little different. Mikulski is friendlier

Anyone know if Mikulski means something different than Murkowski? Sounds like a difference in regional dialects and nothing more ~ we need a slavic language specialist on the scene to translate these names.

This one really gets me. How can anyone do what she did and call herself a winner? She is a disgrace and the epitome of what we all hate in politics. I sure am hoping for a miracle....I couldnt stand to see her accept this stolen race and act like a winner. Shows what money and the need for power does to people.

Updated results here. Not looking good at all. Apparently the military/overseas ballots will not put Miller over, barring a miracle. They don’t expect those ballots to amount to as many as 1000 total. And if they did and they were all for Miller, it wouldn’t be enough. And if they were enough, Democrats know how to steal or invalidate military ballots. It’s their specialty.

Ahead by 1,700 but 7,000 ballots are in dispute and Military ballots have not been counted. Looks like a close one.

That’s the only hope, the disputed ballots and he should fight. He will need our help. I am willing to donate. This is just wrong.

Lisa Murkowski won’t survive for long... She may have her win here (and be despised by most Americans) but she seems to be able to gain another 6 years due to her local corrupt Republican party. This is a short term win for her, but a long term loss for Alaska.

I really hope that she is shunned and despised in Congress - after all, she is just another example of those that claim exemptions to the process.

If anyone needs some ruthless wakening up, it is she...

So it looks like Miller will down 13,000 or so not counting challenges before the absentee counting starts?

These numbers and comments don’t make sense to me, and whoever wrote the articles in Alaska knows how to be about as clear as mud.

Comparing the numbers from the close of the day Sunday to the close of day Monday, Murkowski gained 6,408 votes and Miller gained 2,941 votes.

IOW 9,341 votes counted on Monday.

Now what ballots are those? Are those absentee ballots, and over twice as many people voted for Murkowski before she had even said she was running a write-in campaign? That doesn’t make sense to me.

How many absentee ballots were sent out? How many were received? How many may still come in? How many have been counted?

Those are the facts that a good report should include, but neither of the articles I read gave any of those details. If somebody knows the facts and could fill me in, that would be great.

If they are done with the write-ins, this is about as good a news as could be expected.

The remaining votes should include more Miller votes than Murkowski votes, so he should make up a few hundred.

In the end, the question is how many of the challenged votes are validly challenge.

We know that there are some that are silly challenges, like if the name was cursively spelled, or the voter included “republican” at the end, or put a comma between the first and last name.

There are others that are serious challenges, where the name is scribble and they are assuming it was murkowski.

In the middle are lots of intermediate errors, bad spellings, etc.

If the court went by the strict rules of the law, my guess is Miller would come out ahead.

However, officials still have to count about 40,000 absentee ballots this week, according to the Alaska Division of Elections Director Gail Fenumiai. That figure includes several thousand absentee ballots with write-in votes that have not been counted yet.

If there are 40,000 absentee ballots left to count...it looks like Miller has a decent chance of pulling this out. That is if the absentee ballots haven’t been tampered with in some way. Is it true that Murkowski is not on the absentee ballots?

I wonder what happened here..Miller beat her fair and square. Did some of those conservatives who voted for him now switch their vote for her rather than vote for Miller? This does not make a lot of sense to me...Something is fishy.
