Emanuel to face Challenge on Residency Issue
Chicago Sun Times ^ | November 18, 2010 | Abdon Pallasch

Next week, a veteran election lawyer plans to file a legal attempt to knock mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel off the ballot for allegedly failing to meet the residency requirement to run for mayor.

The issue is whether, by leasing out his house when he moved his family to Washington, D.C., to be President Obama's chief of staff, Emanuel ran afoul of the Illinois Municipal Code, which requires mayoral candidates to be residents of the towns they run in for a year before Election Day. The only exception is for active-duty members of the military.

What a funny set of events... I remember 0bama knocking off his political opponents in previous elections in Chicago by way of technicalities.

Quixotic. Judge will see that Rahm voted absentee in February’s primary. Residency of 1 year affirmed (mayoral election in March 2011).

Baliff, call the next case.

Wonder what kind of crooked Judge will draw this case and keep him on the ballot. If Mayor Daley is behind him, he will not only stay on the ballot, he will win.

"The only exception is for active-duty members of the military."

Not so fast. Libs and Democrats have special privileges that render seemingly crystal-clear laws and statutes inapplicable to them. Count on it.

So here is the question since we are constantly given the better of two evils in this disgusting state who do we support?

A) Danny Davis - would turn Chicago into Detroit
B) Carol Mosley Fraud - would be Todd Stroger in a dress
C) Rahm Emmanuel - would have fun pointing fingers at people in the showers near Wrigley Field :)
D) Rev. Meeks - I don't know anything about this guy so I can't say anything good, but he is a rat.
E) Republican? - Maybe we should run Chicagolady and the dumbcrats would split the vote and she would win!!!! That would be my vote!

Can you educate us on Rev Meeks? I know he is a State Rep but I have no idea who he is. I've heard of him before by name but don't know anything that he stands for but since he is a democrat I would assume he stands for 99% of everything I am against.

On a side note: I think it would be absolutely hilarious if that thug Rahm Emanuel got thrown out of this city.

Maybe he can run for Mayor of Cicero.

As a lifelong crooked politician he is an honorary Chicago citizen—no matter where he lives!

Did he perjure himself by filing a false affidavit to obtain his ballot from the precinct judges of election?

Meeks is a Democrat, but not entirely in lockstep; he supports school vouchers and worked with the GOP to approve vouchers.

I don’t know of any Republicans, in that race, but Fred White is the least liberal candidate. He’s pro-tax cuts, pro-spending cuts, pro-gun, and anti-illegal alien. Please read his site, www.fredrick-k-white.com.

Rev. Meeks isn’t a state rep. He’s a state senator.

Doh forgot to ping you Phil. Sorry man.

Anyhow, I have no say so because I live in Orland Park. But this Mayor race does effect all of us living in the area because we go to Bears, Sox, Cubs, Bulls, and Blackhawk games. $8.00 a beer???, Bottle Water Tax?, Cigarettes are approaching $10.00 a pack, gas is outrageously high.

I have Season Tickets to the Bears and White Sox and it is insane the amount of money the food costs, and the food sucks! So for Sox games I bring my own bottle water in, at the Bears game I just wait to eat and drink till I get home.

My father owns a factory in Bridgeport that makes dog treats (all natural which means no poison crap from china) and if I told you what his taxes were you would hit the roof.

My dad's other business (pork rinds and snack foods) he had to move to Alsip because they kept harassing him about pollution by smell (saying because it smelled like pork by a pork plant that was pollution).

Chicago is turning into Detroit. If Danny Davis wins Chicago will make Detroit look like the garden of Eden. Either way we'll all be screwed, I've never met a rat who was opposed to taxes.

At current, I “support” Meeks. By “support,” I mean “despise the least.”

We will get nothing - NOTHING - from almost all of these candidates. Meeks is at least Pro-Life, and has lambasted the funding of abortions, etc.

I have settled on the sad fact that Meeks is the “best” candidate in my mind who has a shot at winning. The only thing we’ll get from him is an actively Pro-Life Mayor; still, that one thing is one more thing than we’ll get from anyone else running - and guys like Rahm will use the office to punish people they don’t like. I fear folks who will start writing their own enemies list from the moment they get elected.

There are no good choices who can win- absolutely none. But I’d rather get one thing than nothing.

Oh, also:

Meeks is an advocate for school vouchers, and has been for a long time.

You mean the people did not know that Rahm Emmanuel was working as Chief of Staff for the President and the temporary job is in DC? His voting status was changed back to active and he voted. The Board of Elections knew the situation and they decided Rahm should be classified as active.

The good news for Rahm is that this piling on over a bogus charge is getting people to Rally behind him.

"The Election Code 10 ILCS 5/3‑2) Sec. 3‑2. (a) A permanent abode is necessary to constitute a residence within the meaning of Section 3‑1. No elector or spouse shall be deemed to have lost his or her residence in any precinct or election district in this State by reason of his or her absence on business of the United States, or of this State."

I would say Chief of Staff of the President is business of the United States.

JR!

I want to personally thank you for adding the facebook option. I have used it on a ton of threads. I think this will bring more people to Free Republic and hopefully educate the brainwashed Obamaites.

So JR, this is an amazing addition to the site!!!

PS: I'm pinging Admin_Moderator incase one of the moderators came up with the facebook thing. I think this is an AMAZING addition to Free Republic and I encourage other FReepers who use facebook to ping threads.

Free Republic is the original tea party. We were here exposing Clinton for selling us out to China while the Tea Party people were silent.

Also EVERYONE DONATE, this site IS the tea party!!! If it weren't for JR who knows if GWB would have won over Gore.

/end rant
