Ethics Chief Counsel Recommends Censure for Rangel
abc news ^ | 11-18-10 | LARRY MARGASAK Associated Press

The House ethics committee's chief counsel has recommended that Rep. Charles Rangel be censured in connection with a finding that he engaged in improper financial and fundraising conduct.

Chief counsel Blake Chisman called for this punishment despite the New York Democrat's plea to his colleagues for "a drop of fairness and mercy."

If Chisam's recommendation is carried out, this would be the most serious punishment, short of expulsion, which is highly unlikely. Chisam and Rangel argued their positions Thursday in a public hearing on sanctions held by the ethics committee.

Should have been expelled. But unlikely with this group of "progressives" running the circus.

Censure?

Oh NO!

Does that mean he loses his prime parking space, or do they just yell, “Censure!” at him for about a minute.

You or me would be facing federal penitentiary for “irregularities” in our tax reporting.

But, hey, we’re just little people, not big shots like Charles Rangel.

I think Ms Bobbit had the right idea for proper censure in such circumstances . . . for starters.

Charlie got into congress because they expelled his predecessor Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. for much of the same sort of conduct

It would only be fair that he goes out the same way

Charlie didn't want to testify at a hearing because many of these charges are crimes and the testimony could come back and bite him in the arse

Censure? OMG, they can’t be series.

Pelosi is still running things.

Great job of cleaning up The Congress, or at least the House.

How long has this been going on?

How about when she wanted to put Alcee Hastings, a former Federal
judge removed by Congress for taking payoffs, in charge of the
House Intelligence (yes, an oxymoron when paired w/
"Congress") committee?

Probably had some thing to do with the freak show of William Jefferson, (D) LA, too.

Oh no! Not a censure! I heard this on the local radio news break and the reader used his most dramatic voice for the word "censure" and then went on to say Rangel pleaded for "fairness and mercy"

For me the ONLY appropriate punishment is expulsion from the House.

Censure means absolutely nothing.
