If the National Football League could throw a penalty flag at the players union, it would be for political interference.
The NFL Players Association has turned to Congress for help in preventing team owners from locking out union members next season. Steps the union has taken include drafting letters for lawmakers to send to the league and holding a briefing for members of Congress and their aides on the economic impact of a labor dispute, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.
The union's adversary on Capitol Hill, NFL lobbyist Jeff Miller, argued that Congress isn't in a position to resolve the dispute and that trying to pull lawmakers into it is out of bounds.

I’d love to see the NFL shut down. Imagine a season mercifully empty of the idiocy of football!? It would be wonderful.
What? And spare us the agony of watching the Cowboys play?
I hope basketball goes on strike, too!
I don’t think the NHL asked for help from Congress before their lockout.
Agree 100%. I kille dthe Tv cause it is absolute s**t and the NFL fawns over Obama like Stalin in the old USSR.
Even Rush who was pawned and pimped by the scum at the NFL keeps talking about their crap. He was saying nice things about felon and dog killer Vick. I like Rush but he is dopey about the NFL.
I hope the NFL and NBA go under and NCAA college ball can disappear too. It would kill TV and the libs who control TV.
To all freepers. Is the NFL greedy and it’s players overpaid?

Note to the NFL: Hint, hint....
The owners are already and still quaranteed billions for next season on TV revenues, lockout or not. Canadian Football League is more exciting anyways. Go BC Lions!
That’s why the NFL gave Harry $350,000 for his campaign.
My biggest beef with this is the fight over the 18-game schedule. All this will do is dilute the quality of the remaining games (some team’s 14-2 already and locked in the playoffs, they’re going to rest their starters the last 2 games) and it will make players more susceptible to injuries. I would support the 18-game schedule ONLY if preseason was completely abolished, there is a midseason bye for ALL teams (make that bye week an NFL-sponsored Pop Warner game or something) and have a bye week for all teams going into the playoffs and eliminate the extra week before the Super Bowl. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want football to go into March.
If this starts to come to fruition, the political grandstanding will be unlike any we’ve seen
It’s about time that conservatives and the Tea Party helped the NFL with a death of assisted suicide. Anyone screaming for government help has outlasted its useful life.
“The owners are already and still quaranteed billions for next season on TV revenues, lockout or not.”
So much the better. A lockout would hurt football AND television!! A great twofer o needed pain!
The NFLPA should just compromise with the owners.
Its not like the players are underpaid.
Besides my BIL has won season tickets for next season....
As for the players, by definition they are never overpaid, unless they do not perform to their contract. If an owner wants to pay so much for a players' service, that is his right.
The Empire Gladiator League used to have a complete lock on Gladiator Games throughout the empire. The owners made a fortune. Successful Gladiators were world wide rock stars who got rich and had women throwing themselves at their feat. If there was TV, they would have owned the TV rights and all of the residuals. The people loved it.
When the NFL goes away, something better will take its place, with a different set of owners, a different set of players, and a different set of corrupt politicians taking payoffs. Let it all go, won’t bother me if they all act stupidly.
Amen. Plus the NBA is also facing a lockout for next season. sweet! That’s why they invented Netflix and Playstation 3. Lots of entertainment to go around.
No, the NFL players are not overpaid as their talent is very rare and they make tons of money for their team owners.
However, the NFL owners are Socilaist Scum as they take money from the tax payer to fund their stadiums and subsidize their businesses.
