Sacrificing an Island (Cyprus)
Washington Times ^ | 11/19/2010 | Ted Galen Carpenter

Posted on 11/20/2010 1:31:20 PM PST by Bokababe

It's no secret that relations between Turkey and its Western allies have become quite testy over the past year or so regarding an assortment of issues, including policy toward Iran and the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. Western leaders are understandably eager to heal the breach with Ankara because Turkey is a significant regional power. Unfortunately, it seems increasingly likely that the small nation of Cyprus will end up being a sacrificial pawn in that effort.....

A hell of a situation we've gotten ourselves into -- thinking that we have the right to give away other people's land, in return for supporting our ME aims.

Hell is right.

The “West” aka UK US and Germany continue to trample on the human rights of the predominant Christians ethnic groups like Serbs and Greeks in regions where Muslims predominate.

The UK along with its bloody ally Turkey created the problems in Cyprus and now want to enforce a “solution” on the Cypriot people like drunk fascist predecessor in Nazi Germany.

Yeah..the final solution...

I’ve got a solution - send the Turks packing back to Central Asia. Liberals are always whining about reparations and the sufferings of oppressed ethnicities in western lands, so why don’t they do the same regarding far worse oppression by Muslims?

Proven historical fact: The West is always willing and eager to sacrifice eastern Christians souls for for the appeasement of Islamists.

Hey, our Congress is concerned about the island of Cypress. One Congressman has suggested that there be fewer people on islands such as Cypress or Guam less they tip over.

The Turks are playing their Kurd card and the Cyprus card very well. Not only have they moved 250,000 "colonists" onto Cyprus, they have done quite well selling seized Greek-owned properties to Brits and other Euro types, who ought to be horsewhipped for "buying" them.

"Give us half of Cyprus, or we will really make trouble with the Kurds, including those in Iraq."

The Kurd card..

I am constantly learning about matters here from FReeper experts

I did not know about the Kurdish angle.

Do you have any source for that?

About selling of confiscated Greek properties in the north—I know. Sadly. Even the churches are being marketed as “quaint housing needing renovation.”

They have nothing but hatred for Christopher Colombus (1492). Why do they not also want to roll back the conquest of the Byzantines by the Mahometan head choppers? (1453).

I vote that we give away a part of English coastal area to the French, just so the English get a taste of their own bloody medicine. This wouldn’t be the first time the Brits sold a Christian “ally” to the Muslims. Releasing the Lockabe bomber to the Lybians comes to mind...besides, exactly what constructive role does the “superpower” Turkey play in the region?

In an earlier and more sensible age when the western powers were led by serious men, international skunks like Turkey would have been dealt with appropriately. Their membership in NATO would not have protected them from being held to accounts. For the last 20 years, the West has been governed by feckless appeasers right and left, and now craven commercial interests have gained prominence over statecraft. .
