The complimentary House bill passed last year.

See FR thread:

“The Jackasses did it……HR 2749 the Seizure of the US food supply and production passed the House”

Some of us have been tracking this a long time.

” HR 2749 the Seizure of the US food supply and production passed the House” “

Yeah - many, if not most, of us were disarmed by the notion that this would be one of those bills - like cap&tax - that would pass the House and then quietly die in the Senate...

Oops.....

Below is a list of the senator supporting S.510 and the amount of special interest payola each of them received. Please note that RHINO Saxby Chambliss from GA received the largest payoff. And lets not forget our other RHINO senator Johnny Isakson. A proud day for Georgia.

The first figure is the amount received from groups supporting S.510 and the second figure is the amount from groups opposing S.510. So I guess its a no lose situation.

“This is the vote on Closure on S.510 (FDA Food Take-over Bill) “

http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/legislative/a_three_sections_with_teasers/votes.htm

NO! The cloture vote was the one before, #250.
Further, these are both votes on the motion to proceed, not on the actual bill.
Cloture must be invoked again after consideration of the bill.

http://www.senate.gov/reference/resources/pdf/RL30360.pdf
“...This motion to proceed, as it is called, usually
is debatable and, consequently, subject to a filibuster.12 Therefore, the Senate may
have to invoke cloture on this motion before being able to vote on it. Once the
Senate adopts the motion to proceed and begins consideration of the measure itself,
a filibuster on the measure then may begin, so that cloture must be sought anew on
the measure itself.”

I thought you might find the table I just posted interesting. Decending order by contribution.

It does not appear that the data for Support vs. Oppose legislation connected to contributions seems to indicate a connection between contribution and voting for S.510

I suspect the problem is in connecting the contributors and those who support the legislation. I don’t know how that would accurately done.

It is however worth noting that “Will Rogers” (a Dem) stating that we had the “best Congress that money could buy”. It is probably still accurate, even if he appeared to be joking.

Ask yourself the inevitable question: Why would a Conservative Republican vote for the expansion of government control over our entire food supply? The top two rational answers to this question are stupidity or payola. As an avid spectator of politics for 40 years I’m going to have to go with payola. Although in the case of our 2 RHINO’s Chambliss and Isakson I might accept a combination of both.

Neither voted to bring the bill out of committee. Now, will they vote for the actual bill?? We shall see.

The unholy alliance between the "lefties" and the "RINO's" is on the basis of power and money. They have made the deal with the devil. Both the Multi-National Corporate Interests and the "Lefties" are "Globalists"

Hmmm you don’t think all the phone calls made him think twice? He is not up for re-election until ‘14 I think. Corker is up in ‘12. I made it clear when I called I’m watching their votes and I expected them to act like CONSERVATIVES not RINOS.

Thanks for the explanation.

Cloture & “to Proceed”.

I did not understand that they were 2 distinct actions.

I have not read the 17 amendments that are with the Senate version of the bill, but I did look at the “mark up” and it was brutal. The House bill was a horror, and it appeared that the Senate realized it. Now the best outcome it to totally vote the bill down. But with the amendments it may not be as bad as it was. There is no doubt in my mind that the intent of the bill is to establish a monopoly for food production in the U.S. by regulating the small competitors out of business. It has already happened with many of the small processors. The marketers and regulators do not want small producers either, they are impossible to control. They will try to do this in the “name of public safety”, but that is clearly not the intent.
