A young colored lesbian poor single mother asks a white liberal for help and instead gets a lecture about how greedy rich people are responsible for all her problems. Every time she asks him for help he replies : “I don’t care. The government should do that for you” and “Greed did this to you. We must reign in capitalism to make sure the corporations can’t hurt you anymore” When she says the only job she can get is cleaning toilets he says: “The government should force that business to pay you more money and give you health insurance by taxing the greedy rich people”. When he says that she can’t afford milk because Walmart closed and her local store raised the price he replies that Walmarts is evil and abuses their workers.

He tells her :“If the government owns all of the important stuff everything will be better. …I learned this from Paul Krugman’s articles. He is a genius. There are graphs and stuff like that. It’s so complicated that only a few people like him understand economics and fairness. We should elect them to run the government. I love Paul Krugman. I think he should run the country”.

I work with a liberal who was complaining about how her medical insurance costs were going up next year and how it was the evil insurance companies that were to blame.

I told her to get her ignorant ass out of my cubicle before I filed a harassment complaint against her.

I know a liberal who will put a ton of effort into making sure the government extends unemployment, because they are past the 99 weeks. Yet, said there was no place to work in their area. Meanwhile, I know all the retail stores were hiring for the holidays. Better than nothing.

I was at the EAA Air Adventure in Oshkosh this summer, and was standing with a crowed waiting for the crossing guard to let us cross a road, I saw no cars were coming so ran across, the Guard yelled, “Hey you can't do that”. What's wrong with that? Somebody needs to clean them, or they get really nasty.

First job I ever had, 40 years ago, was cleaning toilets, and I've done okay.

The link you posted is a great article. However, I have to wonder why they picked Mississippi? Mississippi has a reputation for being one of the stingiest states in the country for welfare (and one of the more generous for charitable donations as a percent of income).

I'd be willing to bet the differences would be even more pronounced if they had used some welfare paradise such as California, Hawaii or New York.

Another thing the analysis fails to recognize is the cost of working-- maintaining a vehicle and gas to get you to and from work. Yeah, I know, people making minimum wage have that cost as well but, in general, they are going much shorter distances than those on the $60K end are doing.

Still, it is a great analysis.
