Next Tea Party Target: Corporate America
U S News ^ | 11/22/2010 | Paul Bedard

Jesse Jackson isn't the only activist that can use corporate boycotts for political purposes. Starting next year, the huge Tea Party organizer FreedomWorks will urge supporters to punish huge corporations like General Electric and Johnson and Johnson for backing President Obama's progressive agenda.

In an exclusive review for Whispers of their plan, FreedomWorks president Matt Kibbe says: "Tea Party activists are willing to tackle progressive CEOs just as they tackled progressive politicians. Judging by the results of the midterm elections, progressive CEOs should buckle up, because Tea Party activists are going to give them a very bumpy ride."

Unions are in very serious need of reform. They mostly represent government employees now, and "working conditons" haven't been a union issue since who knows when. As for pay, surely you jest--seen the stats lately on gubbermint employee pay and benefits?

One of the worst abuses perpetrated by unions is their interference in the removal of incompetent employees from their jobs.

One reason why the government is a poster child for inefficiency and sloth is because the people who are supposed to be serving you are union members, underqualified, over paid, and out on break.

The tea party should target corrupt corporations, not corporations.

If we target corruption, we target one of socialism’s most important weapons.

What is your problem with Dick Armey, exactly? He is a pretty good conservative who did his best to keep the CFR Speakers Gingrich and Hastert in line. He didn’t always win, of course.

I will give you Boyden Gray, that guy has always seemed dubious to me, at best.

I don’t know anything about Mr. Burnley, do you? Really, you’re smearing him just because he’s a lawyer? That’s it?! You need help.

Jeb Bush is NOT affiliated with FreedomWorks. Your “research” obviously leaves a lot to be desired.

Why are you advocating that conservatives patronize General Electric, a TARP company which is trying to impoverish average Americans with its cap-and-trade scam and pushing hardcore anti-American propaganda on its MSNBC network? Are you nuts? Or are you just anti-American like GE?

Plummz,

We are in a war of extinction, the winner will decide how the next chapter of American history will read. Business as usual can't be allowed to impeed the necessary changes required to produce the ressurection of the American Republic.

People like Armey, Gray, Burnley and Bush are part of the problem. Their efforts to subvert, infiltrate and co-opt the TEA Party must cease. You should know better than championing 'business as usual' They must be totally repudiated for all time. This world's about to hit the Mother of all shitstorms. Would you rather have that reptile Obama in charge, or a sane rational person like DeMint, Palin or Tancredo?

The occupation of professional polititian must end. Lobbyists must become creatures of the past. Extinct animals once tolerated but now gone from the scene. Can't you see beyond the games poison and greed?

Big business, big banks, and big government. All are equally loathsome and dangerous.

OK, what should the upper limit on the size of a business be, and why?

You have it right on working conditions and that most are public employees. Reform is definately needed.

Unfortunately, your understanding on how unions operate is a little lacking. I spent 11 years in a closed-shop union and believe me, it's not about improving working conditions nor is it about pay. If it's about anything, it's about getting a free ride by turning the job into a form of welfare.

I will be the first to tell you there is much on this subject I don't know. Obviously you have have first hand experience. Mine is only from the management side of the table, not as a union member. But I have heard from others that were in a Union the same thing you mention. The merits (or lack of merits) of a union was not my main focus though.

Freedom Works' Dick Armey and Matte Kibbe DO NOT speak for the Tea Party, nor does ANY National Group. I'm sick and tired of their attempts to do so and their attempts to hijack the movement under their control from day one. We speak for and control ourselves.

One of the biggest problems with Tea Party groups, is their ability to remain focused. Adding Corporate America to the mix, doesn't help in this regard. Unless some specific incident arises which warrants our attention, we should remain focused on politicians.

Thank you. Yours is a welcome post.

It is horrifying how many Freepers [as evidenced in this thread] think that we are fighting corporations.

It’s time to sort out red blooded Americans from blue bloods and blood suckers. The red bloods need to fend themselves.

I just started reading Atlas Shrugged and the book is prophetic. The government and big business are in collusion against the American people. There was a time when Wall Street worked for the benefit of Main Street. Sadly, those days are gone. Wall Street couldn’t care less about Main Street.

Maybe I misunderstand your point but are you saying unions should be illegal?

Unions shouldn't be illegal, but they should not be given special powers, either. Unless the owner of a business voluntarily signs a contract with a union or individual workers, there is no legitimate basis for 51% of the workers in a company being able to control who the company is allowed to hire. To be sure, any workers who don't approve of some hires are free to strike, but if the company would rather train a new workforce than accept worker demands, it has every right to do so (whether or not the government recognizes such right).
