Government attempts to control the internet are growing. Net Freedom Forever is a new campaign working to publicize these threats to the internet, and to organize citizens in opposition. Some in Congress are looking for new ways to control the internet, and monitor what we do online. Take, for example, the "Unlawful Internet Gambling Act". While the bill was intended to stop "unlawful internet gambling" the legislation never actually spelled out what this means. As a result, the bill would have the unintended consequences of expanding government regulation of the internet and turning online payment transactions companies into informants and...

Moveon.org In Real Time by: Ben Giles, July 14, 2008 Demonstrators on both sides of the nation’s oil crisis picketed a stretch of Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, Md. on Wednesday July 9. Motorists passing two Exxon gas stations between Leland Street and Hampden Lane between 5 and 6 p.m. were greeted by signs supporting both alternative energy research and offshore drilling. MoveOn.org, which had scheduled the event to raise public awareness on Sen. John McCain’s energy policies, was surprised to be disrupted by a group from FreedomWorks. “We did not know this counter-protest would be going on,” said Ellen Leary...

There is an old adage in economics suggesting that it is possible to determine whether a country is developed or not by observing its farm policies. Developed nations such as the United States and those in the EU subsidize their farmers, while developing nations subsidize their cities by setting price controls on farm products. This year’s $300 billion farm bill truly puts the United States in the developed camp. Despite record high prices for crops, the U.S. Congress is moving forward with a massive new farm bill that boosts subsidies while expanding government control over agriculture. It is not surprising...

To wit: "Let the free market sort it out!" The petition is gathering 40 to 50 signatures per hour, according to spokesman Adam Brandon, who adds that the site is already getting 15,000 visitors a day. Big Labor bussed thousands of activists to Capitol Hill Tuesday to lobby for the Employee Free Choice Act—an act union leaders have called their top legislative priority for the 110th Congress. Event organizers claimed they brought 2,000 participants on 62 busses from the Campaign for America’s Future’s “Take Back America” conference to the Upper Senate Park. There, a parade of Democratic congressmen and senators delivered hard-line progressive rhetoric to their pro-union advocates. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D.-Mass.) furiously ripped up a full-page advertisement sponsored by the Center for Union Facts that was published that morning in the New York Times, USA...

Every five years, the Minerals Management Service (MMS), the government agency responsible for oil and gas leasing in the U.S. offshore, develops a Five-Year Plan. That plan determines where and how often oil and gas lease sales will occur over the next five-year period. The next plan will determine where oil and gas leasing will occur during the period 2007- 2012. Thus, if an area is not made available in the pending five-Year Plan, oil and gas leasing cannot occur in the area until beyond 2012.MMS designs the plan based on the input from the public. The MMS is now...

Dick Armey advises the GOP in The Wall Street Journal... "Moving forward, my advice to Republicans is simple: Don’t go back and check on a dead skunk. The question Republicans now need to answer is: How do we once again convince the public that we are in fact the party many Democrats successfully pretended to be in this election? To do so, Republicans will need to shed their dominant insecurities that the public just won’t understand a positive, national vision that is defined by economic opportunity, limited government and individual responsibility.." "To voters I say: Demand substance and you will...

FREEDOMWORKS PREPARES TO LAUNCH NEW AD CAMPAIGN AGAINST NET NEUTRALITY Ad, new website designed to draw attention of conservative House Members. Not surprisingly, the...

DUBLIN, Ireland - For decades, the mildewed brick and decay of Dublin's derelict Docklands were the last thing many Irish emigrants saw of their homeland before they boarded the ferry to Britain in search of work. These days, the place is being transformed into a land of rare opportunity — and a powerful magnet for ambitious people from around the world. The new Docklands — where scores of cranes feed the frenzy for new hotels and gleaming office blocks — offer a vibrant microcosm of Ireland's rise from Europe's emigration black spot to its "brain gain" capital. Poles, Iranians, Swedes,...
