Rove: Palin tour in Iowa 'smart,' but she has to reach outside GOP ranks
The Hill ^ | November 26, 2010 | Bridget Johnson

GOP strategist Karl Rove doesn't think Sarah Palin's reality show will earn her any points for a presidential run, but said Friday that putting three of her 16 book tour stops in Iowa is "a smart thing to do."

Palin is hitting the road, including in the early presidential state, to promote her new book "America By Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag."

"It gives her an excuse to be there as something other than a candidate, which is really important," Rove said on Fox News.

"That's a pretty smart move if you're thinking about running for president," he added.

As there's no love lost between the former Alaska governor and President George W. Bush's onetime senior adviser, Rove went on to say that Palin had difficultly expanding beyond a "paint-me-red Republican."

"She's got a problem with independents and a problem with Democrats, and over the course of the next year, like all of the Republican candidates, she's got to demonstrate that she has an ability to unify the Republicans and reach outside the Republican ranks," Rove said.

"I mean, in 1980 this was a key test for President Reagan when he ran for the presidential nomination and he demonstrated he can unify the party and that he had a special appeal outside the Republican Party's so-called Reagan Democrats," he added, stressing that Republicans want to win in 2012 and want a candidate who can draw voters from outside the party.

I am sure you were trying to make a point. But you were woefully ineffective in your attempt.

Must have something to do with how the media elevated him (while insulting G.W. Bush) by calling him “Bush’s brain.” Watching Mr. Rove’s recent performance on matters, will only serve to elevate Bush, as it now appears (without much doubt) the president was using his own brain.

Let’s try someone like Nixon, Ford, Bush 1, Dole, Bush 2 or McCain again. Look at that record of... OK, don’t look at the record. Just believe in RINOs!

It’s all understandable and it all makes sense...if you have you head up your ass.

Ever notice how all GOP candidates are stooopid and all Democrat candidates are brilliant?

Ever notice how with the MSM, up is down and down is up and black is white and soft is hard and so on and so on?

Institutions of higher “learning” were taken over by radical leftists (schools of journalism, schools of education, womens’ studies, environmentalism and science fiefdoms to push correct thought) and their influence has bled over into how churches approach religion.

The tipping point is upon us.

O'Reilly undoubtedly carries a lot of clout at Fox....and if so, I can see why Rove is on all the time....they are two of a kind....opportunists, closet elitist liberals and untrustworthy.

However, if it's Roger Ailes shoving Rove down our throats every night on each of the various three-consecutive night-time shows, it's rather inexplicable.

Maybe Rove works cheap...which is what his political pontificating is worth.

I hope his contract is not renewed when it comes up. He takes up too much vauable air time with totally wrong messages for our country's frightening situation.

This is just plain weird... I typed my response below your comment, spell check, hit post, and all that showed up was your comment...

Anyway, my basic response was President Bush told US from the get-go he was a unifier, and he worked best in Texas with democrats. And thus far I can say President Bush never lied to US, which is most unusual for any politician.

However, President Bush, IMO was so blinded by his belief he could unify US that he ignored the liberals whose ideology is to destroy US the most blessed nation in all of recorded history. The media devils day in and day out chewed him up and spew him out of their lower intestines.

Rove almost seems to have been some part of the lower intestines given what is now coming out of his mouth.

Strange is right.

I sometimes wonder how much is true and how much is artificially staged. Throw in other strange scenarios like what happened with Abledanger, and it becomes more clear how urgent it is that we replace everyone in Washington with regular Americans.

True enough. But then he employs Geraldo Rivera and others to let them vent and be convenient foils for educated thought, so they serve some useful purpose.

Someone should tell Karl Rove to stop talking about Sarah. I wish Fox News wouldn’t renew his contract.

Rove is wrong again. Reagan didn’t reach out to the Independents and “Reagan Democrats”, they came to him. The economic, military and social situation under Carter became so bad that they gravitated right over to Reagan. The same will happen all over again in 2012.

Correct. Rove is making no sense. He said that Reagan had to show that he could pull more than Reagan Democrats. He had already gotten a majority of the votes in the '76 race (NY/PA delegate formula doomed him). But Reagan also LOST Iowa in a crowded field to George Bush the Elder. So, Reagan didn't prove anything in Iowa.

Krauthammer is also called a RINO around here. It won’t be too much longer before Rush is called one as well.

And so many of us were yelling, "They're not going to say thank you!!"

Rove almost seems to have been some part of the lower intestines given what is now coming out of his mouth.

And not even the regularity is praiseworthy.

Well one thing for certain very little is believable coming out of the powers that be in this regime. Rove like the rest of the country club 'blue bloods' cannot help but uncovering their tawdry pettiness.

Rove’s advise in this tea party environment is outdated. He doesn’t realise that there is a new powerful player.

Pats problem is that even though he is right on a lot of things, he is stark raving mad.

Right! It’s image/perception.

That’s what I think Palin better worry about. Once people get an impression of you it becomes hard to change peoples minds.

She should soften her tone and delivery for a while. Fire and brimestone wears people out.

I did like how she mocked obamas mistakes as a response to the nitpicking of her misspeak this week. That was funny and well sourced.

Last serious poll I saw had Palin about 50/50 with independents. Rove has degenerated into a huckster selling media talking points. Is he actually working for anybody these days? I wonder who would be willing to pay him real money, since his own book was a grand tour of mistakes, stupidity and rationalizations.
