wow, what analysis

Exactly. After 8 years of this man's guidance George Bush ended up the most hated man in America, and the republican party in ruins. What a genius.

I wonder who would be willing to pay him real money, since his own book was a grand tour of mistakes, stupidity and rationalizations.

"Oh Rove! Serve up some more RINO talking points, will you now?"

"Yes sir! Right away, Mr. Romney!"

I remember 1980. The media were hysterical about Ronald Reagan being an ignorant shoot-from-the-hip cowboy who was certain to destroy our economy with "voodoo economics" and then get us into a nuclear war with the Soviets.

Establishment republicans, the Roves of the time, agreed-- and tried desperately to defeat Reagan-- first by running George Bush in the primaries, and when that failed, by running a third party candidate.

Establishment republicans have shown by their actions that they would rather have had four more years of Jimmy Carter than elect Ronald Reagan. The people thought otherwise. What does that tell you?

Isn’t there something else for Rove to do or talk about?

You've been listening and watching the anti-middle America msm, I fear. Mainstream, bedrock, average Americans don't see her as far right or extreme or insane or untrustworthy.

Much the same was said here on FR about Christine O'Donnell. And whether or not it was true, it's undeniably true that O'Donnell got hammered.

One thing for sure about a Palin campaign, it will establish whether or not a full court press from the MSM can still sink a candidate.

Karl Rove can't "whiteboard" Sarah Palin, so he'll never understand her. Sarah Palin, like Reagan, understands that the GOP is nothing more than a mechanism to conduct politics:
"Our party must be based on the kind of leadership that grows and takes its strength from the people. An organization is in actuality only the lengthened shadows of its members. A political party is a mechanical structure created to further a cause. The cause, not the mechanism, brings and holds the members together. And our cause must be to rediscover, reassert and reapply America's spiritual heritage to our national affairs.

Then with God's help we shall indeed be as a city upon a hill, with the eyes of all people upon us."

-- Ronald Reagan, CPAC 1977

Karl Rove and his ilk in the ruling class will never understand this kind of talk. That's why he's nothing more than an apparatchik.

She is as smart as a whip. She is going to have a lot of trouble because the MSM will be reviewing every word for a mistake, ready to attack at the slightest error in grammar or fact.
If the media were to do the same to the Obama or any one of the lefty, it would prove how smart she really is. But alas, the media turns a blind eye to miscues the left makes.

Someone should tell Karl Rove to stop talking about Sarah. I wish Fox News wouldn’t renew his contract.

Yes sir, especially considering that he's probably on Romney's payroll right now, working completely under the table.

And just a reminder to everyone else on this thread about what is going on in GOP-land at large:

Next for GOP leaders: Stopping Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin is a phenomenon. She leaves the other aspiring GOP presidential candidates behind in the dust. Here’s an example: everyone and their dog knows by now that Palin is on a book tour. Don’t remember a whole lot of stories or hype about Romney’s recent book (you know, the media-crowned “front-runner”?). You’d never know it, but Mike Huckabee also just started on a 31-city book tour. Big news, huh? Sarah has a lot of work to do, needs some polishing up, but as Michele Bachmann put it, “the world is her oyster.” The media (and many in the old guard of the GOP) fear her and are absolutely obsessed with her, and that is all I need to know. She is the true embodiment of the principles behind the Tea Party movement. She is not a Washington insider or a part of the establishment. If she runs on the banner of “Common Sense Conservatism” and a Second American Revolution (Take Back our Country!), I believe she just might have a chance to overcome the Herculean and fanatical opposition she will inevitably face - and which we are already seeing in the relentless MSM hit pieces attacking her. I swear, if a Martian were to descend upon the planet to observe our way of life, one of their first observations would be: “Good Lord why do they hate this woman so?”

Governor Palin has much the same task as Reagan did: showing she’s not extreme or stupid.

Seems to be doing well at addressing that, we’ll see in a few months.

She’ll share another task he had when she chooses a running mate.
Like Reagan she’ll have to pick a VP from the establishment wing of the Party for unity’s sake- a Romney or someone like him. That will be interesting!

Republicans want to win in 2012 and want a candidate who can draw voters from outside the party..................................... Not a problem, the MSM will pick one out for ya! Let the MSM decide who is the best Republican, I’m sure they’ll back a real winner, whoooo hoooo.

“Karl Rove and his ilk in the ruling class will never understand this kind of talk. That’s why he’s nothing more than an apparatchik.”

Absolutely, Al. The thing that infuriates Rove the most about Palin is the contempt in which she holds his “profession”. If she succeeds by running a campaign without the help of a “marquee consultant”, future campaigns are going to begin to question whether they are even necessary, perhaps even conclude that they are a hindrance.

Remember 1976. Sears made many mistakes that nearly drove Regan from the race. He was saved not by anything Sears did but by Jesse Helms and Tom Ellis’ grassroots operation in North Carolina and the amazing grassroots operation of Ernie Angelo in Texas. And Sears’ decision to abandon Pennsylvania and to waste money padding Reagan’s California victory (which was assured) didn’t add any delegates from CA (since it was winner take all)but cost Reagan precious delegates in PA. So much for consultants.

And in 1980. Sear spent Reagan into the poorhouse, lost him the Iowa caucuses with his imperial, above the fray strategy, and was poised to cost him New Hampshire, when Regan benched him. Firing him on the day of the New Hampshire primary, he replaced him with Bill Casey, a political novice and the campaign sailed smoothly to the 1980 nomination.

Reagan suffered from what Lyn Nofziger called “our Sacramento inferiority complex”. Reagan and his old California hands (Meese, Nofziger and Deaver) believed that, to win a national campaign, they needed a “name brand” manager. This is only clear advantage Palin has over Reagan. Palin has already run in a national campaign and has watched these so-called, self-proclaimed experts (like Rove, who wasted money in California in 2000—reminiscent in an way of Sears’ mistake in the 1976 CA primary—, assuming Florida was in the bag, and very nearly cost his candidate the 2000 election). She knows that, when it comes to the Schmidts and Roves, there is “less there than meets the eye”. What ‘s more.....THEY know that she knows. Hence the hostility. Her success in 2012 equals their demise. Rove, Schmidt and the rest of their ilk will have to pack up their traveling medicine shows and get real jobs.

The fact is that Palin is a far more astute politician than Rove and Schmidt. I believe she has studied the Gipper’s campaigns of 1976 and 1980 (probably read Craig Shirley’s great books on both), and she has learned from the mistakes he made. She is focused on loyalty from her staff, because she can afford to be focused on that. As for political strategizing, she marches to the beat of her own drummer. Thank God.

I am curious to know which positions Palin has taken that could be characterized as too far right. I hear this mantra often, but never with specifics. Where is she too far to the right?

You’re both right. Palin has work to do...

My own wife “thinks” she doesn’t like Palin. Because 98% of what she knows about her, is what she’s seen in the MSM and on daytime talk shows.

Like it or not, all you cultist... THAT is where a large portion of America is. It’s Sarah’s job (as it was Reagan’s) to replace that “radical image” with the truth... That’s exactly what Sarah’s working on now... but, she has a ways to go.

The next two years are going to be WHACKED with people like Donald Trump, and Newt, and Sarah all running for President!

Thanks, but, I would vote for that great vanity you linked in post 68, which should be bookmarked and used over and over again. I intend to draw on it in the future, with attribution of course.
