Direct Conversion May Make Embryonic Stem Cell Research Obsolete

New York, NY -- Scientists made a major step towards making embryonic stem cell research obsolete when they used direct reprogramming to convert adult stem cells to an embryonic-like state. Now direct conversion is moving the ball forward.

The process of direct conversion involves changing one kind of specialized stem cell into another kind -- and it eliminates the need for controversial embryonic stem cells, which some scientists promote because they can change into most any kind of cells.

I still don’t get this media obssession with Embryonic Stem cells when MOST of the miraculous cures we’ve seen thus far come from ADULT STEM CELLS.

Adult Stem Cells do not have any place in the Abortion debate, and are therefore politically irrelevant. The only reason people cared about Embryonic Stem Cells was because the Pro-Choicers were tired of getting their butts kicked over Partial Birth Abortion, so they wanted to shift the debate to the opposite end of the gestational spectrum.

Antipathy for adult stem cells, or any not of killed embryo origin is centered in the Culture of Death, which encompasses also abortion advocacy.
BTW, research using embryonic stem cells has not been banned by law; only funding by taxpayer-derived funds was banned. Advocates of the Culture of Death insist on government funding because of the public endorsement it implies.

Public Funding is necessary for Embryonic Stem Cell Research because the abortion advocates want the government to make a utilitarian judgement that it is worth destroying the life of one in order to benefit another. It is not enough for them that the government says that people have the right to destroy certain lives. They need government to say that destroying those lives is a good thing.

Roe vs. Wade was about balancing rights. The Embryonic Stem Cell business is about utilitarian evaluation of the lives to be destroyed. It is a whole ‘nuther level of evil.
