Because the members on the committee don’t like uncomfortable truths about themselves...
There has always been pressure to minimize the Personality Disorders. They eliminated Psychopathic Personality and Sociopathic Personality years ago. And of course, they eliminated homosexual behavior, which is a sexualized form of pathological narcissism, long before.
The reasons are mundane: there is no medical treatment for these disorders, and insurance companies generally won't reimburse for their psychotherapeutic treatment. That's the long and short of it, salted by a frisson of political adventurism.
They will be people you never heard of.

Mojito is right to link this latest with the elimination of homosexuality as a mental illness. Most here know already that the precedent has already been set, and pedophilia and bestiality will also be soon enough eliminated from the DSM.
Pathology is being normalized, obviously, which means violent crimes will rise, it stands to reason, and children will suffer the very most.
