There were widespread reports of shaking across Mass., R.I., N.Y., Conn., and N.J.
Election day reverberations still going strong.

Looks like it’s right on the continental shelf. Maybe a big undersea landslide.

It seems to be about 4 miles deep. Maybe triggering a landslide, but not its cause.

I should have been clearer. I was thinking a landslide was the cause of the 5’ observed wave (tsunami).

lived here for around 40+ years.....

I felt an earthquake in 1981 or 82...that one was centered in LI Sound...thought it was a big truck shaking the main road a block away...except it took too long to pass.....only later I read that it was a quake....

I did not feel this one.

I was thinking a landslide was the cause of the 5’ observed wave (tsunami).

there is also the Hudson canyon that goes from NYC all the way to the continental shelf...there could have been a slide there.

also, the weight of thousands of feet of ice on the coast of the north east during the last ice age is still experiencing spring back, that is felt as quakes.....

the epicenter is at the continental shelf not too far from the Hudson canyon, visible a few miles south and to west.....

"I am watching my favorite disaster flick 2012 right now."

I haven't been able to bring myself to watch that. Is it any good? Like "10.5" or "Dante's Peak?" Inquiring minds want to know...

Interesting.

Will The Big One hit NYC instead of L.A.?

here is an interesting factoid.

if the big one hits here under or near Long Island. As the island is made of sand and bedrock is way deep below sea level, the shaking will sift the whole island into the sea.

of course it would take an 8 or more on the ricter scale for this to happen but who knows?
