Russia's President Wants to Turn Around Population Decline
http://www.voanews.com/english/news/europe/Russias-President-Wants-to-Turn-Around-Population-Decline-111062294.html ^

Posted on 11/30/2010 2:02:49 PM PST by kronos77

Russia's president devoted the largest part of his annual State of Russia speech to reversing Russia's population decline.

If Russian couples have a third child, they will get a baby bonus, better health care, and free land to build a house or dacha, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev promised in his annual State of Russia speech.

Political analysts were hoping to hear about missiles or democracy. Instead they got babies.

Twenty years ago, just before the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Kremlin ruled an empire with a population slightly larger than that of the United States. Today, Russia has less than half the population of the United States.

And Russia's population of 142 million people is aging fast, a sign of bigger drops ahead, President Medvedev said.

The president said Russians will have to increase birth rates to overcome the demographic ax blow of the 1990s. Due to the post-communist economic collapse, there may not be enough fertile age women for Russia to maintain its population size. Mr. Medvedev, the father of one child, said two will not do. It must be three.

Mr. Medvedev also called for a Russia without orphanages. He said Russian families should adopt Russian children.

“Mr. Medvedev also called for a Russia without orphanages. He said Russian families should adopt Russian children.”

Fine words. Why doesn’t Medvedev go first and set an example. Meanwhile millions of kids languish in institutions as despised outcasts of inferior parentage (in the Russian mind). And nationalists like Medvedev huff and puff and stall on letting foreigners adopt them.

In fact Medvedev- let’s see you adopt a child of mixed race from your country’s orphanage system.

(crickets)

It dosent work that way. State should put fundings, education and make people want to have babies, larger families. Outlawing abortion is just part of the job.

Communism spent 70+ years destroying the family, destroying trust in society, destroying religious faith, while promoting materialism above all else. And they think a proclamation from the President and some tax breaks are going to fix the problem of generational suicide?

Let’s talk again in 2050.

I’ve often wondered why Russia and other European countries with demographic problems don’t recruit immigrants from Latin American countries.

Seems like they’d assimilate a lot easier than Muslims.

In fact, we’ve got 10 to 12M illegal ones here that Russia can have free. We’ll pay the shipping and even throw in support for their first year.

Seriously, why isn’t anybody looking at this possibility?

Maybe because nobody, including Russians, wants to live in Russia?

People who have no hope, don’t want children to be born into a terrible society. This was the original reason Russia’s birth rate dropped and is probably the reason it is still dropping.

During those 20 years (and the 20 before it), the U.S. has had an explosion of unchecked third-world immigration, legal and illegal.

I need to research this further, but somewhere I just read that Hamas and Hezbollah had something like 20,000 Muslims in Venezuela and Brazil.

The Muslims are infiltrating everywhere it seems.

Kudos to the Russians.

Without immigration, the US is contracepting and aborting itself into oblivion only a half step behind Russia and the other countries nativist neocons delight to spit upon. I do not expect to see the day Americans have the Russia-sized balls necessary to name the problem out loud as Medvedev has done.

Unchecked illegal immigration is the only thing saving the US economy from being in the same trouble as Russia, Japan, and much of Western Europe.

I’d like to ask all those blowhards yelling about illegals who they think is going to be paying their social security and medicare. Who do they think is going to man the economy and create the consumer markets that make the US a worthwhile place to invest?

I think he’s right on the money. We’ve got the same problem in the US. We really can’t have so few workers and so many on Social Security. Rand Paul mentioned after the election how we might have to raise the retirement age substantially.

Any time a politician talks about the need to raise the social security age, it’s a recognition that we can’t have half the population too old to work. Rand Paul has mentioned this recently.

Ahhh... the Russian Brides, one of my old favorite pass times.

A guy I used to work with used to receive an email from a Russian mail order bride service just before lunch on Tuesdays.

He'd forward the email in all it's glory to several of us with "Russian Whores" in the subject line...

Russian Whores.

My favorite was the four page spread...

1. Some Cossack chick clad in a bikini beginning to take a dip in the icy, muddy Lake Kubyshevskoye.

2. Posing in a Kazan potato field, wearing a low cut blouse, sprawled across the hood of an abandoned Russian sedan.

3. Modeling the latest in Belorussian lingerie in the interior of a Soviet block house.

4. In casual attire, in front of a Christmas (or May Day) feast, arm placed conspicuously around the shoulders of a lop-sided, smiling 7 year old son dressed in a cowboy outfit.

Personally, I don't expect anyone to pay my Social Security or Medicare. I can't imagine it will still be there.

I plan on working until I'm disabled or dead, just like dozens upon dozens of generations before me did.

I highly doubt upwards of thirty million third worlders, with foreign allegiances, a distaste for education, law abiding, and assimilation, are going to provide anywhere near the tax revenue as to what they're going to take.

Aside from Petroleum extraction and labor intensive agriculture, what do people invest in Mexico now?
