Steelman makes it official: Running for Senate in '12 (Missouri)

Forget the speculation -- Sarah Steelman is running for Senate.

The former Missouri State Treasurer becomes the first Republican to announce a challenge to U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill in 2012. . . .

Her entrance into the race is sure to kick-off a cascade of announcements from other 2012 GOP hopefuls in Missouri . . . and could be the beginning of an intraparty fued for the Senate nomination. . . .

Steelman, who is from Rolla, was a State Senator before becoming state treasurer in 2005. . . .

While Steelman is the first Republican to announce a challenge to McCaskill, she likely won't be the last.

Former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent -- who lost his seat to McCaskill in 2006 -- has announced he is seriously considering a run. . . .

In her announcement, Steelman emphasized fiscal issues, saying she would work to balance the budget, reverse "Obamacare" mandates, and stop "the Washington elites from making America more like a European country."

"It is time we get back to honoring and upholding our Constitution," Steelman said.

No guarantee that Steelman will win the nomination. Depends on who else is in the Republican primary. Could be several good candidates.

What a horrible picture. I’ve seen much better pics of her.

Yesterday My Mother got a call from a polling firm asking a lot of questions about views and who might be a good candidate in Missouri. She was not sure if it was Steelman, Peter Kinder or Jim Talent behind the call which asked alot of questions about Missouri issues - Right to work, Card Check, who she voted for in 2010 Senate race and the 2008 Presidential race.

I thought it was interesting that they work already working issues for 2012.

Missouri needs to defeat Claire McCaskill so I hope they find the right candidate to do it.

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder will probably run against Dem Gov. Jay Nixon.

I hope so as he is a clearly a strong conservative. I like his stance on almost all issues including Obummer care.

It might be. I would make that current picture disappear and call a professional.

I love Sarah Steelman!
This is awesome! I’m certain the GOP establishment in Missouri won’t support her (again) because she is not an elitist like them but in this political climate that plays to her benefit!

Damn this is great news!

Amen and Amen!

With the exceptions of St Louis and Kansas City there is a strong anti McCaskill vote waiting in the wings.

Steelman does have a lot of name recognition

Jim Talent appears to be a weak candidate based on his resent campaigns.

Kinder is a very good candidate for any office.

Crazy Claire has got to go! It is up to the republicans to pick the right person to do.

Claire has to go for sure. Steelman should give her a good run. I was HOPING David Limbaugh would have jumped on board as he would make a great conservative senator and absolute constitutionalist.

Steelman has a history of narcissistic bad decisions, and a closet full of scandals. Take a closer look at her bio, folks. She does whatever she wants, and heaven help anybody who stands in her way. Refusing to bow graciously when Hulshof trounced her in ‘08 is only one of many signs that she lacks the ethics we need. She refused to endorse him, and actively discouraged her backers from joining forces with Hulshof’s team, guaranteeing that the the governor's office went to the Dems. That's no commitment to conservative values, at all. Now she wants us to help her up the ladder? Besides, McCaskill would have Steelman for breakfast with all her scandals and bad decisions.

Talent is many times better, but not sure he wants it enough.

Claire has Target written all over her 2012 changes. She is DOA in 2012. The Missouri GOP will take her out like they prevented Sarah Carnahan from being elected. Claire is a classless lady.
