Military members who have a problem with a change in policy to allow gays to serve openly may find themselves looking for a new job, Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned Thursday.
Mullen told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that the military is based on meritocracy, "what you do, not who you are." He said if Congress changes the don't ask, don't tell policy then the U.S. military will comply.

I wish I had made a note of an article posted here a few weeks back. A freeper who is current military mentioned a poll where they were asked to vote on DADT and the freeper said overwhelmingly active duty personell did not want gays openly serving. Then the poll comes out and it is the opposite. Imagine that.
Mullen was appointed by Bushie 43.
This guy Mullen has got to go. I don’t know how it can be forced as long as Obama in C-I-C, but somehow or other, he has got to go. He’s beginning to make Wesley Clark almost look good.
thank heavens what you say is true. I surely don’t want any warrior who is fighting for me and America to be put in danger because of a he/she who’s liable to break down in tears under stress, or worse yet, not take orders. Homos don’t want to serve America - their cause is their homo agenda.

It causes the electorate to be reluctant about using military force in America’s interests. Check.

The rotten thing about this is that you can’t prove a negative......if this comes to pass, anytime a homosexual is inconvenienced, passed over, shunned, offended, mocked, criticized or generally made to feel bad - it will be because they are “gay” and to prove otherwise will be very difficult. Additionally, I wonder if Ad. Mullen would like his boy next to an HIV+ soldier in a fierce firefight....if they haven’t thrown their weapon down and run away already.

The entire controversy is over "what you do" - it is about a behavior, not about a name or an ethnicity.
