In Senate hearings Thursday, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen shot back at Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for implying that Mullen is not in charge of troops and is thus not qualified to say that the military should end its ban on openly gay service.

Interesting, the officer chewed out by Boxer just sat there, but Mullen ‘fires back’ at another senator?

This world is going crazy and no common sense remains.
Good people may not want to serve, once these clowns are finished with the military.

I was NEVER a fan of either Gates or Mullen. These guys annoy the crap out of me. I’m not a big fan of John McCain either, but if he can help stop this madness, he’s aces with me. I still proudly serve, but I hardly recognize a lot about the military of today when compared to when I enlisted 21-years ago.

We all know gays serve today - always have, but these men want them to be in the OPENLY. Why is this so important? Stop and think about that for a second. When and if this passes, get ready for openly gay Chaplains, gay marriages at base chapels, gay-only housing and restrooms for recruits in basic training. When the “trans-gendered” crowd decides to sue for the same right to serve, look out. The law of unintended consequences...

Mullen is yet another pathetic armchair warrior who never served a single minute of combat in his life, yet has amassed a chest full of medals and the highest rank in the land. He is not a soldier or sailor but a politician who plays dress up.

Its very obvious that the leadership can't fight, win, or conclude a war no matter how much money or manpower we pour into it. It seems obvious now that the leadership doesn't understand discipline or morale as evidenced by horrible cases like Captain Graf, Capt Nowak and Major Jill Metzger. The leadership is consumed by politics and political correctness and have lost their view of the big picture and final outcome. They can't say no to what is wrong. They only want to serve and accommodate political correctness and deviants. To get their way, they will lie, deceive, obstruct, deny and call for surveys and studies-—at great expense and waste of limited resources. Mullen and Gates have outlived their viability and effectiveness and clearly need to go-—before it's too late!

Is it just me, or is Mike Mullen a putz?

It's not you. Mullen is a putz... a politically correct tool.

Actually, it was quite interesting to go to the Defense Department site and download the report. I still can't get the appendices to the first part to download. The first time I tried it it locked up my computer and I had to crash it. Then, I ran Norton and found 66 problems.

Using the work computer, because I could, I downloaded the report on a usb drive. When you read the actual tables, the press reported endorsement is a bald faced lie. The rank and file only voted about 8% on one table as positive. There is a huge gray area of neither good nor bad based on the form of the question. All in all the negatives outweighed the positive on all counts.

Still going through it, but the reporting of the surveys is either incompetence and laziness by the press or outright corruption.

This doesn't seem to be my country anymore... There is so much damage being done, deliberately and frequently, to tear it down. I become more convinced EVERY SINGLE DAY that it WILL take a violent rebellion to save our nation.

I mourn those who have fallen, and to think that their sacrifice is being cast aside for dangerous social experiments is unconscionable.

You always hope that your children will not have to face the horrors of war, but I think it is inevitable now.

I’ve been bashing McCain along with the rest of you for the last couple of years, but if he fights and wins this battle, I’m declaring him a Senatorial HERO.

Yes. Those who opposed the repeal heard the leadership supporting repeal, saw the President pushing repeal, and realised they didn’t want their “anonymous” survey answers showing up in their folders as “homophobe/resists authority”.

The United States Navy became neutered after Tailhook ‘91. The United States Army took a dive after Viet Nam.
The United States Air Force never had any balls.
It leaves us w/ The United States Marine Corps(Semper Fi).

75% of those that were sent the DADT survey threw it out.

McCain Spox: Senator 'Misspoke' When He Said Defense Secretary Never Served In Military (BFD - Gates is a sell-out)

"I'm paying attention to the commandant of the Marine Corps," McCain told NBC. "I'm paying attention to the other three service chiefs who have serious concerns. They are the four guys who are directly in charge. In all due respect, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is not directly in charge of the troops. The Secretary of Defense is a political appointee who's never been in the military. And the president, obviously, has had no background or experience in the military whatsoever. It was a campaign pledge to the gay and lesbian community."

"...28 percent response rate..." "...response rate was in line with other surveys the military has done."

So because they used flawed "polls" for other "studies" it's it's valid this time? I think we've discovered a whole new kind of fallacy deserving of it's very own Latin name. Does anyone believe for a moment that the "poll" or "study" was going to be anything other than a white wash? Does anyone doubt these clowns have developed ZERO policies for actually making a post DADT military a dignified place to live in?

McCain was outstanding. Giving credit where it is due.

He put those asses in their place. Big time.

Gates and the generals saying that this is the average percentage of response.

I would like to know just what other surveys were done in the military.

They insist it would be improper to ask if they support ending DADT.

These so called leaders are a disgrace. They should have resigned en masse when the so called CinC demanded the ban end.
