The second most violent city in America just approved plans to layoff half its police force, according to NBC New York.

Camden, N.J. will fire one in four city workers on Jan. 18, including half of police.

This comes just days after Newark, N.J. fired 167 police officers, which marked the biggest force reduction in 32 years.

Camden was named the second most violent city based FBI crime data that came out last week. Newark was named the 23 most violent city in America.

I guess they’ll just have to be replaced by Obamas Civilian Defense Force, the one as well armed and funded as our military.

Firing police officers is wrong, and the pols allowing this should be run out of town. Govt’s Numero Uno job is to provide protection for the citizens.

Wanna bet there are still street sweepers, librarians and building inspectors still employed? (Yeah, yeah, I know...the street sweepers aren’t doing such a good job on the streets pictured above.)

God what a disaster. Camden looks like a war zone.

Maybe some places should be destroyed so they can start over. With apologies to the decent people of Camden, maybe a place like that just can’t be saved/rehabilitated.

why not lay off 50% of the bureaucrats, pencil pushers and secretaries? This is the same old sh#t the federal government does.

They shut down parks, passport offices, slow down essentials but never get rid of secretaries, crappy art exhibits, NPR funding, grants for idiotic studies on (insert favorite perversion or liberal cause) or government cars, private jets for congressmen and their families.

I say, good then. Get rid of the cops, let the Beserkers loose and release the dogs... let anarchy rein and when we see a couple of the mayor or council members family lying in the street we can, tsk, tsk..

Just remember to Vote Democrat, cause they'll fix this problem. Just need to tax more rich folk.

This is Gov. Chris Christie’s problem now. He’s got to address this if the Camden Mayor won’t or is helpless.

Maybe he should send the NJ National Guard to Patrol the Streets.

"I guess they’ll just have to be replaced by Obamas Civilian Defense Force..."

I'm thinking TSA should set-up xray scanners and "gropper/agents" on these streets to look for weapons. (How long would they last here?)

These cities should just re-organize and become state territory. Many, Many cities will soon lay off police and fire employees to increase payments to the retirement funds of existing and retired employees..plus their premium health care.

We have way too many cops in this country and most cities just can’t afford to pay the high salaries and corresponding retirement benefits. That’s the way it is and it’s getting worse by the day.

Maybe they’re just tired of being only the SECOND most violent city in the United States...

Word is that cops (even before the layoffs) wouldn’t go into Camden if they didn’t have to...

How New Jersey Legislature can fix +/-90% of their problems with inner-city violence:

1) Repeal New Jersey’s gun laws.
2) Pre-empt localities from having their own gun laws.
3) Pass ‘Castle Doctrine’ and ‘Self Defense’ laws.
3a) Due to the almost unimaginable severity of the current problems, POSSIBLY have to wait through one or two years of increased violence and murder rates as ‘the wheat separates from the chaff’, so to speak.
4) begin to reap the societal benefits of allowing people to defend THEMSELVES, as crime and violence rates drastically decrease, and decent, hard-working, honest people once again become willing to live and work in these cities.

We have way too many cops in this country...

Not to mention the fact that those laid-off cops, as well as the ones still employed, contribute a lot to those crime statistics. They still will I guess, but at least the out-of-work ones won't be able to hide behind their badges while doing so.

5) Raze buildings such as depicted in the original post.

Better that they should become vegetable gardens.

I'm guessing that you aren't familiar with the recent history of Camden, New Jersey. Camden is such a sh!t-hole, and their police force so ineffective, that their law enforcement duties were taken over by the New Jersey State Police some years ago. I believe it's so effed-up that even the state police involvement was terminated.

When I read this story I was surprised to hear: (1) that Camden even had any police officers left on its payrolls, and (2) that they only laid off half of them instead of the entire force.
