The world's largest army? America's hunters
Redding.com ^ | December 6, 2010

Posted on 12/06/2010 5:09:18 PM PST by SJackson

I don't spend my fall weekends tramping around the woods in pursuit of a buck, but a lot of my friends and neighbors do.

This blogger adds up all the hunters in just a handful of states, and comes to a striking conclusion:

The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great. There were over 600,000 hunters.

Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world - more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined - deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

His point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

You make my point, actually. Do you truly believe that the majority of the military, reserves and law enforcement would side with the Left? If not, do you think they’d leave their garrisons and station houses empty handed? How do you think the enemy in Iraq came upon the makings for the IEDs, and the other military equipment you mentioned? The Montgomery Ward catalogue? Sure, Iran is aiding them now, but in the early part of the conflict they were using provisions from the former Iraqi military, weren’t they?

Yup. All we gotta do is make sure the enemy is unarmed, hungry or horny and not nearly as smart as us.

Yep...and those goat humpers humpees are nowhere near the marksmen American hunters are. Not even close.

When it comes to police, I look at the way they dress when doing crowd control at a leftist event vs a tea party.

At leftist rallies they wear riot gear. At tea parties they wear shorts. They have neighbors too and I’m sure they would feel safest leaving their family alone with conservative neighbors.

Yup. And such was Yamamoto’s assessment of the basic impossibility of any assault on the American west coast. That America was bristling with rifles “behind every blade of grass”.

If my post proved your point then you mis-stated your point to begin with...it happens.

One hunter or a million with a 7mm against satellite guided missiles operated from thousands of miles away is not much of a defense.

Imagine you're in control of a battery of satellite controlled missiles. You have to eliminate 1 million hunters, at a distance of 1,000 miles. The hunters are deployed at a density of about 4-5 per square mile. Each of your missiles has a blast radius of a few hundred feet. Do the math.

Terrain needs to be taken into account as well. Those of us who live where we were raised are very familiar with it.

Start taking out bridges and Michigan becomes nearly impassable by vehicle and the dense Michigan underbrush doesn't make it any easier on foot.

Agreed. It would be “the mother of all insurgencies”. :-)

Which... is why it is unlikely to ever happen. Our problems will always be more likely to come from a fifth column, more than an outside force.

Send them to clean out Washington, DC. Free ammo and no bag limit.

We already had one enemy that never considered that option because of that.

I'd be interested in some 'Bubba' numbers, hunters or not.

I have not hunted in years.

Prior to Nov '08 I owned one gun.

Currently, eight out of eleven are semi-auto's.

I can forsee doing battle with Obama's Civilian force, just not enough SWAT teams to go around, ya know?

I remember watching a video out of CA, the EPA nazi goons were all dressed in black, like 10 of them, all in line, carrying their auto's, marching up to this dudes house front door to take care of some violation or something. At a residential house? Reminded me of the Ellian Gonzalez affair.

My first thought?

Need Claymores. Lots of Claymores.

Then I woke up.

Damn, it was just getting good.

For the record, we wives may not be hunting, but many of us know how to defend our homes and would do so. Our men won’t have to fight alone.

Too quick. Send them with ropes.
