I think we should all go over to Time and FReep the poll so that Assange gets it. “Person of the Year” jumped the shark years ago when they made it the Personal Computer, so this would help make Time look as ridiculous as it is.
Or doesn’t understand the “person of the year” title.
It’s not an honour, you know.
Other people who have been named such include:
Adolf Hitler
Joseph Stalin
Nikita Khrushchev
Ayatollah Khomeini
Yuri Andropov
Vladimir Putin
Barack Obama
Ben Bernanke
It’s to a person that has “influenced events” in the past year. For good or ill...
I believe they really intended to give it to bin Laden in 2001, but probably then held off because of the sensitivity of the situation. Guiliani was chosen instead. Imho bin Laden would have been the proper choice.
Cheers.
Exactly.
Exactly. It’s perfectly consistent with Time’s rationale.
Arrest his father for not using a condom and his mother for not having an abortion.
They need a real quick way of avoiding acknowledging the existence of the Tea Parties...again!
Among Stalin, Hitler, “The Peacemakers” (represented by Yassir Arafat)... oh, and apparently he was already represented on 2002 (The Whistleblowers). I’ll take this nomination as what it is: some kind of elaborate meaningless joke. “The Computer” and “The Endangered Earth” have been listed, come on...
It could mave been a generic “tea bagger”
Or Time...
I have the edition from 1979 naming Ayatollah Khomeini as person of the year.

I’m surprized it’s not Bradley Manning.
Hope this deals a death blow to Time Mag!
Time’s Person of the Year list..1927 through 2009:

They’ve been nuts for a long, long time.
Oh, I doubt that. Lots of people know who he is. Today. Ask again in a year or so, not so much.
VERY insightful, FlyVet. IF TIME can't get attention by being outstanding, they'll get it by acting out. You are right on this...
I think it’s because this kind of thing was covered under the Espionage Act of 1917, promulgated by the evil progressivist mastermind Woodrow Wilson, and that, given the expansive nature of the current view of the first amendment (when used by leftist/progressivists), the SCOTUS struck down those portions some years ago and the weak-kneed, jellyfish-spined Congress has been too busy diddling the pages and subjecting thAmurrickin Pipple to healthcare to reform it.
Since when does getting arrested for “sabotaging a condom” make you Time Person of the Year?
I thought the editors of Time, like the rest of the left wing press, were strongly in favor of condoms.
