Teens are getting pregnant to get on MTV’s ‘Teen Mom’ show

If you’ve ever seen Teen Mom, you know that it in no way glorifies teen parenthood. Those young moms and dads are struggling, and despite the rumors that MTV pays them around $60,000 a season, (which MTV refuses to comment on) many of them are shown relying on government assistance to get by. The young women on the show, as much as their lives are put under the microscope, do get famous in their way.

It’s called the culture of poverty and the poverty of culture. Deviancy as pop culture..

Didn’t they used to have music on MTV?

I guess hearing “Ho Ho Ho” at this time of year has a different meaning for some.

I guess they did not get much traction when they blamed the movie “Juno” for the rise of teen pregnancies a few years ago.

Yes. But it went downhill when they started showing pop music videos. Like Rollingstone I guess, the minute the pop stars appeared, it went downhill.

MTV was great to watch from about 1981, when they first went on the air, to sometime later, I think the mid or the late ‘80s. They just played nothing but music videos all day and all night. Then, they went downhill, IMO, and started having regular shows, most of them on the imbecile level. I never watch that station anymore.

Hold it. If MTV is paying these jerks $60,000 a year, they sure as crap shouldn’t be collecting ANY government assistance. So “MTV” refuses to comment? I’d start subpoenaing somebody’s bank records.

I don't think I've seen MTV in 25 years (back when they actually played music) and I have no intention of watching it again.

As someone reminded me recently, Ruth Graham once told her husband that, "If God doesn't judge America for its sins, He owes Sodom and Gomorrah an apology."

Why not do a reality show about a person building a business and succeeding? then the businessperson will get that sixty thousand and deserve it! Now THAT would be inspiring and if teens emulated that, well, I daresay that it owuld be a great thing.

Let’s see. We let the idiot atheists move God out of the school, government and church beginning in the 60s to the present. Did we really think there was going to be a different outcome?

Exactly. There are plenty of decent teenagers with an entrepreneurial spirit that are formulating great business ideas. Find out what THESE kids are doing to get themselves a leg up in this economy. I’d love to see a reality show that pairs a 17-year-old with ideas about the future of computer programming and have him mentor with Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or Ralph Ellison for a day.
