Mark Madoff, the older of Bernard L. Madoff’s two sons, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Saturday, the second anniversary of the day his father was arrested for running a gigantic Ponzi scheme that shattered thousands of lives around the world.

This reminds me of the ‘suicide’ of Amschel Rothschild, in 1996.

from http://www.beyondweird.com/conspiracy/cn08-68.html

A *Spotlight* inquiry has established that Rothschild, 41, a
billionaire investment banker and a noted sportsman in excellent
health, was discovered lifeless on the floor of the bathroom of
his suite at the luxurious Bristol Hotel in Paris on July 8 at
7:32 pm.

Police found that he had been strangled with the heavy cord of
his own bathrobe. One end of the cord was attached to a towel
rack, as if to suggest that Rothschild’s violent death was
self-inflicted.

“The [French] crime scene investigators never called it
‘suicide,’” reporter Theirry de Segonzac told *The Spotlight* in
a telephone interview from Paris. “After photographing the body,
one of the detectives gave the towel rack tied to the body a
strong tug. It came right out of the wall.”

Had Rothschild really attempted to hang himself from that rack,
he would have ended up with nothing worse than a couple of holes
in the wall, de Segonzac said.

The Wall Street Journal reported that brother Andrew Madoff was currently the head of operations at Black Umbrella, a consulting firm started by his fiancee, Catherine Hooper, after the Madoff scandal.

Lucid, grief- or guilt-driven suicide may be a lot of things, virtually all of them bad. But it ain’t cowardly.

Yes, the life of a friend of mine was "shattered". A family doctor in his 50s, he was about to retire on his Madoff investment when he learned that it was worthless. He had his entire life savings -- principal and interest -- tied up with Madoff. He was an early investor and saw his investment grow year after year.

Stupidly, he trusted everything to Madoff. More stupidly, he believed the SEC was keeping an eye on Madoff. Nonetheless, he's screwed.

His 2 year and 4 year old kids were named in the recovery lawsuits to make sure they didn’t receive any of the money. He punted on his kids’ defense and he took the coward’s way out.

The lawyers are looking at this as a missed opportunity to earn millions. Many tears will be shed over the financial loss of the canceled prosecution.

The problem was that the civil suits against him would have deservedly left him penniless.

Large numbers of people go broke without killing themselves. He may have turned in his father in a cynical scheme like you said (I have not followed the case), but that doesn't really explain the suicide in my mind.

He killed himself over the money that he no longer had and the fact that he would most likely be in prison 2 years from now for tax fraud

Not plausible. He had two years to stay alive and free.

Suicide? Maybe, but I doubt it.

There are many thousands more of the fraudsters, banksters, Free Traitors, crooked politicians, and other liars, cheats, and thieves, who should be hanging from lamp posts and trees, from sea to shining sea; first for the willful destruction of our economy, and second for demanding that the taxpaying citizens of the USA reimburse for their theft.

I would have more sympathy for a rabid dog and its innocent pups.

Thousands of lives around the world, huh? Does anyone here know *anybody* personally whose life was shattered? This is a disgusting display of partisan axegrinding by the Slimes on the back of a tragic event. Thanks Ladycalif.
Anyone? Yes, I know a family that lost most of its wealth. They had invested directly with Madoff and were also screwed by lazy lying financial consultant who had de-diversified their portfolio in the last 5 years by also investing in Madoff. The father is a diabetic now bedridden by a stroke. The daughter's apartment was sold recently, in part to pay for her grad school, and she now lives with her parents again. The mother lost her corporate jobn and now works part time, taking care of her husband the rest of the time. They've also placed their country home for sale, but it has been on the market for 2 years. They've gone from a rich family to a middle class family now scrapping by.

The prosecution and lawsuits will continue so the lawyers will get their cut as always.

But now it will only be his wife and children who will have to defend themselves without the father to help defend them. They’ll lose the money in the civil proceedings. And it will be interesting to see if the criminal tax fraud charges will apply to the wife.

The wife wanted a divorce, mainly for financial reasons...hoping that she and the kids could get some of the swag before her husband was sued...look, Rut got to keep $ 2 mill, so maybe she figured that the courts might let her keep a few mill as well. Mark made millions form the fraud. There is no way that the two sons didn’t know what was going on. I suspect that when the jig was finally up, they hatched a plan, with Bernie’s concurrence, (heck, it was probably his idea) that they woudl be the ones to turn him in, to deflect suspicion from themselves.
