Mike Huckabee: Serious Competition for Sarah Palin in 2012

Sarah Palin may have met her political match in Mike Huckabee.

Both have been criss-crossing the country on book tours. Both hold degrees in communication. Both hunt and fish. Both use various media to hit their target audiences.

But while Palin often generates anger, Huckabee takes the Will Rogers road. He has an aw-shucks demeanor, freely cracking jokes, shaking hands and chatting with the media while Palin shuns reporters.

Already road-tested by a 2008 White House run, Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor and Baptist minister, may just be the strongest GOP candidate to take on Palin in a primary and President Barack Obama in a general election.

The good news is that Palin is the rock ribed conservative candidate with a proven record of fighting corruption, and vastly more understanding of the intricacies of all the issues.

Huck is socialist muck.

Romney is socialist glitz.

All the rest are inexperienced puppies.

Welcome to all Republican Freshmen and congratulations!

Congratulations to all of you for your contribution to this historic election, and for the contributions I am certain you will make to our country in the next two years. Your victory was hard fought, and the success belongs entirely to you and the staff and volunteers who spent countless hours working for this chance to put government back on the side of the people. Now you will come to Washington to serve your nation and leave your mark on history by reining in government spending, preserving our freedoms at home, and restoring America’s leadership abroad. Some of you have asked for my thoughts on how best to proceed in the weeks and months ahead and how best to advance an agenda that can move our country forward. I have a simple answer: stick to the principles that propelled your campaigns. When you take your oath to support and defend our Constitution and to faithfully discharge the duties of your office, remember that present and future generations of “We the People” are counting on you to stand by that oath. Never forget the people who sent you to Washington. Never forget the trust they placed in you to do the right thing.

The task before you is daunting because so much damage has been done in the last two years, but I believe you have the chance to achieve great things....

Today is the 46th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s famous speech, “A Time for Choosing.”

The thing that struck me as I watched it again was how relevant its message still is for today’s America. Just as in 1964, we have a president who says “we must accept a greater government activity in the affairs of the people.” And just as then, we hear the voices of those on the left who claim the profit motive has become “outdated” and the Constitution “outmoded.” Back then liberals aimed to build a Great Society in which the state looked after us “from the cradle to the grave.” Today’s “fundamental transformation” doesn’t have a similarly catchy name, but its aims are no different from those of Johnson’s central planners.

And so once again we face an election in which the fundamental issue is “whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.”

Reagan believed that in the end, Americans would always choose liberty over tyranny. He called it our “destiny,” our American birth right. Well, this coming Tuesday, you and I have another rendezvous with destiny. America, let’s go and win one for the Gipper.

Sarah Palin may have met her political match in Mike Huckabee.

Huck is weak. He is weak in his political philosophy, and he is weak as a person.

He is not a fighter, and he is not the person who is going to return us to constitutional government.

After what we've been through the last two years, if he couldn't be roused to come out and do battle with the Obamists, he isn't the right man for this job. He is hard-wired to find common cause with his enemies. He is hard-wired to be bi-partisan. He is simply unable to wage philosophical warfare. It isn't in him.

If I were you I’d be more concerned about Romney getting the nomination than Huckabee.

If one is worried about Mitt getting the nomination then one should also be worried about Huckabee, the phony conservative, taking votes away from a good conservative in the South, handing the nomination to Mitt.

I really wish she would have said 'the last four years'. The amount of spending by the Pelosi House in 4 years is about the same as the Republican-held House for the previous 12 years.

Well your point is well taken. Like it or not one thing we do know Huckabee can do is pull the wool over the eyes of a pretty good number of voters.

Nice letter.

I still maintain that she is as qualified as the one.

Words mean little. I am a walking talking example of this reality.

I would vote for the guy with the glass eye in “Gangs of New York” before her in the next primary.

If it comes down to Palin vs. the one, I go for her. Then we can do this crap for another four years, regardless of who wins.

This situation can only go on for so long.

People do not easily relinquish economic position to a sovereign government without violence.

We are country of puppies who know only play...

We will not easily be force fed $hit.

It can be done, but is unpleasant.

I base my opinions on candidates on what their actual positions are. Neither stands out as acceptable to me. Too much liberal baggage in both camps.

Sarah is great. She is not afraid to take on ‘the entrenched,’and ‘stuck in the mud,’ getting rich with all their buddies and family due to the perks and easy foreknowledge that allows for insider opportunities at several levels. Look at how rich they all are now.

Hypocrites. Sarah was an answer offered to us from God when she stepped onto the stage as potential Vice President. She was betrayed by McCain. She still does not attack McCain. She has values, principles, she has integrity. If we do not support her in all earnestness and strength as conservative Republicans then we are stupid. INDEED!

Those that want no changes, nor their own bailiwick upset, attach her from ill intentions. Are we really going to allow the medias and the lies and evil attacks,m whether belittling or denigrating to sway us away from the best candidate for President that we have?

Go SARAH!... and thank you, for strongly considering the run for President. It is the time. Let us pray to God and see what He will do.

Class warfare and division is hoped to be squished in between the sheets of the Republican party before 2012.

We know who we are and that we win elections, as November 2 will attest, so we know that we have a voice in the nomination in spite of the money, in spite of the establishment, in spite of every other road block, and we will have a conservative nominee.

The games have not even begun and the dark horse is out there, if needed, for the win. Anybody can beat Obama, but he/she (our next president) will be a CONSERVATIVE.

Yours sure are inline with that proclamation. But, you fail to make any cogent argument for your PDS. I doubt you can walk a straight line.

Did anyone watch Hucabee over the weekend? Mancow (sp) the radio personality who is sometimes on Hannity’s radio show ( or at least was once a upon a time) really took it to him over his softball conversation with Rangle..it was great. I wonder if it is on youtube? It would be great if it is and posts that..
I would not want to have to hold my nose and vote for Huck over the Rat in 2012..

The only way he’s serious competition for anybody is if those folks he got killed with his clemency decisions get raised from the dead. Even Mike Dukakis didn’t get anybody else killed.

I like Pence and Christie as well. I also like Palin but I think she would suffer such ridicule that a campaign of the issues would be made very difficult. I do think she has a strong place in the conservative party as a mouth piece for conservative values..and if Michael Steele could be chairman of the Republican party what would be so terrible about Sarah Palin holing that type position?
