Nearly one in three people with Somali ancestry in the United States live in Minnesota, although some activists claim there are more. The 1 in 3 estimate comes from new survey data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. The bureau's American Community Survey says there are about 25,000 people with Somali ancestry in Minnesota and about 85,700 in the United States. The other states with large Somali populations are Ohio, Washington and California, but their communities are much smaller than Minnesota's.

There are just as many in San Diego. Many of them were settled here by Catholic charities. What do California and Minnesota have in common? It’s the welfare not the weather.

There were a whole bunch in place where I ran a customer service center.
Their “sponsors” invited all of the business owners to come to a meeting to talki about getting them jobs. We were told they did not have a good sense of time, because time was not as adhered to in their country. We were told they did not take to well to having women direct them, so we should be sensitive to that. We were told that their culture did not deal well with direct confrontation or discussion well, so we needed to deal with that.
We ran a customer service center, mostly women employees—all women supervisors and we dealt directly with service issues—or direct customer contact. Our service center measured the interactions and time on the floor to the second—which allowed us to staff correctly.
Combine all of the above, plus the fact that you could not understand them and they would have been perfect for the company. Not.
And the sponsors wondered what they needed to do in order for me to hire them (we had dozens of openings). I suggested that they learn to speak english, buy a wrist watch and learn how to use it, and get over their mommy issues.
Needless to say, i was not called back for more “information sessions.”
To add “diversity” to homogenous Minnesota. That’s why.
Seriously, can someone explain to me how importing these people enrich my life and that of my children? There’s no benefit to me. I haven’t noticed that I’m watching my spending better or I’m eating less junk food. 2010 America = world’s Wal-Mart/Refugee Center.
Plus the population density of Somalia is way less than Minnesota. It is even less than Oregon. Visas should be limited to people who are useful to America’s interests. Period.
