...maybe he stopped the reading because he's got the votes to stop it.

That's not the point. We're at war, and DeMint just called off what would have been a successful air strike against the leftists in the Senate.

Reading these bills out loud on the floor is a weapon. This one would have eaten away 15 hours of the legislative clock, which would have seriously hampered the Democrats' ability to put through more damaging legislation in the waning days of the 111th Congress.

This is precisely why it's a mistake to promote legislators to the presidency. Few, if any of them can think like a field commander.

DeMint, what happened? This is as disappointing as anything I’ve read/heard since Nov. 2nd.

If DeMint will cave like this, we’re in more trouble than previously thought. Republicans: snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...again. Our Republican men need to put on their big boy pants, stop sniveling in public, or get out of the way and let the women do the job!

Could it be that old harry does not want America to hear what is in this bill. Since it was going to take the same amount of time either way, why not shine the light of truth on what is really in this bill?

If he succeeded in getting the Treaty killed he won.

Hear, hear. The vocal knee-jerk reactions throwing solid conservative Sen. DeMint under the bus is embarrassing to conservatism. Libertarians? DeMint ain’t caving to nothing. IMHO, if he’s not pursuing this action any longer it’s because he believes START doesn’t have the votes to pass anyway.

Yeah, right. Easy for her. She holds no office. Talk is easy and cheap.

She sure inserted herself when it was not necessary for a Governor on a yea vote on the UN LOST Treaty.

See, things are different when you have to put your money where your mouth is.

Unlike the hotheads I always hold my fire. So we’ll see. But one thing is for sure - this treaty better not pass.

She was forced by long standing political decorum, to endorse mctraitor... and she never appeared with him or helped him beyond her initial statement. She went to Arizona to see the Governor many times... but no joint appearances with mcnasty. Your premise is flawed... and it matters not... she will be the nominee of some party... bank on that! BTW... JD... love the guy... but he has failed twice to get elected by people that know him best. He would be far better than mcbama... but the People of Arizona disagree.

I listened to Demint on our local radio channel say how he was going to delay the Obamacare bill and that he had several tricks up his sleeve to slow things down and make it nearly impossible to pass the bill.

I was very heartened to hear that and thought, "I can count on Demint". He then did nothing that he said he would do and let it pass. I now see him doing alot of bloviating and not following through. He needs to learn that his words need to mean something or he will be just another politician.

Why do they have to ram it through. That ALONE should clue you that it’s a bad deal.

Where in the world would you get the idea that I support the Treaty?

What I’m hearing about wait until we hear what DeMint says. I remember hearing the same people on Free Republic say that about Bush and Karl Rove on some liberal bills and the Dubai Ports deal. Just wait.. Just wait... Yeah right!

When did you see any of those folks support conservative candidates in primaries against rino's? When did you see any of those guys set up PAC's to help fund conservatives in primaries? I saw Senator Jim DeMint do that and more.

Exactly. It was Reid who caved, not DeMint. NRO has an extensive piece on today’s battle. Not only did more GOP senators announce that they would not support START in the lame duck session, DeMint got Reid to cave on when the START debate would begin. Hence, with the delay engineered by DeMint, in which Reid caved, there was no remaining rationale for reading the entire START treaty.

There is no upside for DeMint to offend fellow senators by ignoring Senate protocols. He will want others to help him on the omnibus.

I suggest that people read, do their research, and have some faith in our leaders before subjecting them to these unwarranted villifications. Target your ire on the Left.

Stop, think, and learn before mouthing off.

Yeah, let’s burn her at the stake for that one! You betcha!

When are you going to get over her?

She inserted herself in every key debate in 2010.She energized conservatives and the Tea Party like no one else.
Where was Boehner? McConnell? Insert any GOP’er right here______________________.

Did Mittens? Hucklechuckle? Good and Pawlenty? jindal?

What did they risk?

Funny thing about Sarah Palin, right or wrong, she always puts her money where her mouth is.

Try to find another note to play—your one note band is sounding rather tired.

No news here...

That is, "no news" if you were paying attention to the election campaign and victory night rhetoric vs. the ultimate performance of the 1994 class of prior gutless wonders...

If he’s got the votes then this thing is DEAD. It’s tactically pointless to read it. There are other ways to delay proceedings and disrupt the process.
