Toomey to Support Don’t Ask / Don’t Tell Repeal
NRO ^ | 12/16/2010 | Daniel Foster

Posted on 12/16/2010 11:42:12 AM PST by OldDeckHand

Senator-Elect Pat Toomey has just issued a statement supporting repeal of “Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell.”

“As I’ve said previously, my highest priority is to have the policy that best enables our armed services to do their job,” Senator-Elect Toomey said. “Our civilian and professional military leadership have now spoken and said we should repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. I would support a free-standing measure to do so.”

If Majority Leader Reid keeps his word, the freestanding repeal measure passed by the House yesterday will be voted on in the Senate in the lame duck, before Sen.-Elect Toomey is seated. Still, the support of a credible conservative like Toomey is a sure sign that repeal is likely to pass.

The worst thing to do is to get demoralized.

We got the idea, we got the truth and we are going to win, it's just going to take a long time.

I can foresee all kinds of things happening. Pretty soon after DADT is repealed, all the services will be required to have a personnel code to identify G&L servicemembers (probably eventually bi and transgendered ones, too). They’ll need this code because they will be required to find out everyone’s sexual orientation, so that they can keep track and make sure that nobody’s “discriminated against” (affirmative action) with regard to assignments, evaluation reports, promotions, etc. Lawsuits based on any perceived discrimination will abound.

Two words on why Toomey probably became a DADT supporter.

FBI FILES.

Giving gays and other determined special-interest leftist groups whatever they want is the path of least resistance for politicians. In fact, it’s the basic reason spending is so wildly out of control. DADT will be history when the newly elected Congress is seated, but I will not be surprised to see them give us gay marriage within the next two years.

Oh please. I understand the Tea Party & their position on social issues just fine. It seems to me that repealing DADT isn’t being very “small government”. If you can’t understand that, then perhaps you’re the one with the problem.

How many members of the military will resign if this passes?

One thread regarding the poll of the military for their views said that as many as 25% of the poll respondants clearly said they would resign if the gays were given free rein.

How in any possible way does this help our defense & military readiness?

My guess is that that 25% are the older, more experienced military members.

OTOH, since NObama is doing nothing towards illegals & crime in general, perhaps these military types can create themselves new jobs in the security sector of private citizens.

Well someone just signaled that he is not interested in being on a presidential ticket in 2012.”””

The list of targets for the 2012 election just keeps getting bigger & bigger.

Some of these persons are sure slow learners, are they not?

I think we should allow him to have a day in office before he’s denounced as a RINO

-- I'm completely convinced that America has become so totally diabolically disorientated that we're incapable of saving ourselves at this point. --

I'm surprised at Toomey for this one - goes to show how shallow my awareness is and can be.

I think the political aspect of the country has been doomed for a good part of my life of 50+ years. I feel very bad about all of this, but take comfort in the belief that God has His "plan," and it all works out for the best, in the end. It's not so important, in the grand scheme of things, that any country survive - countries and kingdoms are of the earth.

Merry Christmas season to you and yours, may you have all of the blessings of health, and physical and mental comfort!

You are exactly right about the Tea Party being only about taxes and money. Too much has been attributed to that movement. If it had been a conservative constitutional movement or a social policy movement, it would have been about 35 years old by now. Nope, the only thing that got all those people up in arms was about taxes 1.5 years ago.

There are countless consequences to a repeal of DADT - every one of them negative. The first will be recruitment and retention. Both will suffer from men who seek to avoid the controversy and inherent risks.

As the various branches struggle to compensate in their recruitment goals, they will likely be forced to lower their standards in order to meet their quotas. This will result in inferior candidates and less unit cohesion.

Just as many physicians have vowed to leave the medical profession with the imposition of Øbomacare, I’ve read of many career officers who will retire earlier than they had originally planned. The net result will be the hasty promotion of inferior and ‘green’ officers to fill the void.

The US Marine Commandant vowed to segregate known homosexuals from the normal troops. The likely outcome there is that we will read of his sudden retirement and a ‘suitable’ replacement named. That will no doubt improve morale /s

And then there’s the grunt-level impact. I flat-out reject the inference that ‘most’ servicemen are indifferent to bunking with active homosexuals. I don’t believe that they are any different than the rest of society in general. Society in general largely doesn’t care as long as it is at the theoretic level. In glorious NIMBY-ism they shrug it off right up til the moment when a homo couple do a lip-lock in front of them - then they can’t get away fast enough. Let’s see them propositioned or harassed a few times and then see how they respond. Oh yea - by then it will be too late.

The fact of the matter is we can presume that some things are likely to occur, but we won’t know to what extent until they impose it on the troops. My whole point in this is to say that NONE of this is necessary or advisable, and the vast odds are that the negative implications are enormous.

Life is difficult enough for the troops - why make it worse?

Yet the left-wing gay fascist movement is about money. If you think not then ask any of the businesses that have been sued for not submitting to the left-wing perverted morality. There have been hundreds already easily. You cannot claim that you are for a movement for economic freedom but then support the left-wing perversion agenda.

If you support forcing citizens and businesses to have a perverted morality dictated to them or be threatened with financial punishment then you do not have anything in common with the TEA party and should not be corrupting it.
