Senate Republicans blocked a measure Saturday that would have offered provisional legal status to some adults who came to America illegally as children.

Democratic backers of the legislation fell short of the 60 votes to move the DREAM Act legislation forward. Democratic Sens. Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Jon Tester of Montana, Max Baucus of Montana, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, and Ben Nelson of Nebraska voted against bringing the bill to the floor; Republican Sens. Richard Lugar, Lisa Murkowski, and Robert Bennett voted for it. The vote was 55-41.

The bad news is that DADT made it through.

DADT or something similar can easily be changed/fixed/reimplemented.

DREAM act, however, would be far more difficult and problematic to attempt to fix. I’m ok w/ no permanent damage - so far. We still have START to stop.

The Nightmare cloture vote was huge. I’m very disappointed about DADT if the actual votes mirrors the cloture vote.

I agree. This one needed to go down. I’m much relieved.

Glad to hear that regarding DADT. Can this possibly be addressed at the beginning of the next Congress (i.e., amended, repealed, etc.)? Will it be a priority?? I certainly hope so.

Still giddy over the Nightmare cloture vote. I was nervous as heck during that vote.

Way to go you who place a vote just because of an "R" after the name!

Well, at least one of these liberal hacks won't be back I do believe.

The DREAM is dead. This is such freaking good news, because there was so much more included in the bill that the media wasn’t talking about. It sounded like such a “compassionate” bill but when you get into the details you realize how far reaching/extreme it really is.

Quite true. Opening the borders to 100 million new Democrat voters at this time would mean the end of the US Constitution as we know it.

Every nightmare idea is carefully camouflaged as something good. Few people will knowingly commit suicide.

Only legal resident non-citizens are allowed to enlist. One of the reasons the DREAM Act was so nefarious is that it would have allowed illegals to enlist.

At least they have R's after their names and they can win elections. That's what's most important. /Establishmentarian
