The Senate has just voted to end debate on a bill that would lift the ban on gays serving openly in the military, essentially clearing the measure for passage and signature by the president.
Lawmakers voted 63 to 33 to end debate on the current policy, put in place by former president Bill Clinton, informally known as "don't ask don't tell."
The Senate could vote on final passage of the measure as early as today but it will most likely happen on Sunday or Monday.
"We are on the verge of ending 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' for good," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said after the vote "This is one of those moments in our history when we stepped up and squared our policies with the values this nation was founded upon."

Given the current situation with our military fighting in countries where homosexuality is a crime punishable by death, who will take up the slack when openly gay military cannot go to the battlefield?

I was one of those who thought this whole DADT thing was innocuous, like a mosquito bite, but it isn’t. It opens the door to other things, and this whole business is nothing more than forcing the rest of this nation to accept homosexuality as normal.
And by forcing, we’re talking with the force of law. Say what you will, but I’ve not heard of a case in this country where someone went to jail because they refused to accept Christianity.
This is NOT going to end well.

I was wrong on DADT being passed. A few weeks ago the GOP was certain that they could stop it. They said that it would never make it to the floor. They were wrong, and I was wrong. It looks as if it is going to be passed with the help of the RINOs. Never in the debate was the real issue mentioned, namely whether or not homosexual behavior is immoral. Instead, the debate has been about unit cohesiveness and fighting ability. The issue of WHY it was detrimental was never addressed.

Please to not in the same sentence compare what the 442nd and its outstanding men went through to homosexuals. That is wrong in so many ways. Racism is NOT condoned in the bible, nether is gay sex.

Lets not forget Hannity etc who could have spoken about this and asked their listeners to have called.
This could have be stopped if talk radio etc had got involved but again the likes of Hannity will not even talk or even show videos of the likes of folsom fair.

Seems it depends where one lives and comes from.
I suppose some young pones in MA would have no problem but most of the country does have a problem young and old
That situation is being remedied in a very upfront and direct way (at the "enlistment" level).
Although I tend to be pessimistic, I can only see the military trending more and more leftist/PC over time.
