Former President George W. Bush was happily stunned when legendary former heavyweight boxing champ Muhammad Ali stood facing him.
Bush was at a Barnes & Noble Booksellers store in Phoenix today signing his book, Decision Points when the Greatest entered (with the Secret Service) to shake hands.
With his famous comic humor, Ali sat next to Bush and held the book up as press and public snapped photos.

Cassius Clay was the most dispised fighter in America because of his big mouth. When he came out against the Viet Nam war the makeover by the MSM began!
It was SMOKIN’ JOE FRASIER who landed a good punch which knocked the smartass out of Ali. Ali still won that bout but SMOKIN’ JOE’S punch and left Ali permanently punch drunk.
***Ali didn’t dodge the draft. He went to jail.***
Ali converted to Black Moslem and claimed a religious differment from the draft as he was a “iman teacher”, then he went to jail, but the Federal Judges sided with him and he walked.
He still kept his big mouth going till SMOKIN’JOE FRASIER knocked the smartass out of him and left him permanently punchdrunk. Frasier still lost the bout.
I judge Ali on his boxing. He was truely great. His “trash talk” before a fight was also great because it was not trash, it was a prediction on exactly what he was going to do. Bush was also a class act even if I agree with you that some of his policies were very bad.
He can have whatever religion he wants as far as I am concerned. That is his personal choice, his personal life. Not my business or concern.

Why did he go to jail?
He'd be dead in a week, and his family.....2 weeks. He left the Nation of Islam, in fear of his life, he won't take that risk again with Sunni islam, even if he wanted to.
And there in lies a religious truth. On can sometimes never know the heart of a man.
He's an ass and a draft dodger and he's fair game about such things.
Not sure his looks are fair game, he looks so bad because he's got Parkinson's Disease.

I wonder if there is some meaning to this visit. He was aginst the Vietnam War but now visits Bush, the favorite target of the mindless peaceniks. Have his views changed?
And it should be noted that Greorge Foreman was very pro-US during the same time.
What??? That’s like saying someone wasn’t a robber, but went to jail for robbery. Did he volunteer for jail? No.
Clay was a damn good boxer, but he was still a draft dodger.
I guess it have to do a Salmon Rushdie. Like I say, it won’t ever happen.
I may be splitting hairs here but heat me out.
If he was truly a draft dodger, he would have gone to Canada and hung out with the other draft dodgers. He would have continued to fight, and he would have made millions—and been a beacon to other dodgers.
Instead, he turned himself in and fought a legal battle to avoid being inducted.
Now, it is possible and damned likely that we will disagree with his position. BUT, he avoided draft the legal, and proper way for a CO.
And he did pay a price. His license to box was revoked and he was unable to make a living at his profession.
I dont agree with his politics. I don’t agree with his religion. And I always liked Frazier better. BUT, I always respected his respect for the process.
You pretty much echoed me feelings, I can respect people that I disagree with, and Ali is in that category with me.

There isn’t any doubt about that...he is a case study of what happens to boxers who stick around too long.
I’ve often wondered which fight did the most damage. It was probably accumulated damage, though Larry Holmes really did a job on him.
I’m not a med person, but as an engineer, I think it’s like cumulative fatigue damage on a steel part.
All stress impacts above a “safe” level are additive.
Had he had lifelong CO beliefs, I would say “give him a break”, that's what CO is for, but his CO was more or less a convenience.
You’re probably right. Concussion wasn’t as well understood in the ‘70’s and I’m sure he had some.
