Graham: If 'Don't ask' repeal doesn't go well, Obama owns it
The Hill ^ | 12/18/2010 | Ben Geman

Posted on 12/18/2010 11:43:40 AM PST by Qbert

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) does not see a political lift for President Obama in the imminent repeal of the Clinton-era policy banning gays from serving openly in the military.

“I think the people who are supportive of 'Don’t ask, don’t tell’ were probably supportive of the president to begin with,” he told reporters in the Capitol.

“Most Americans, I think, hope it works out. I certainly do. I think it is going to be problematic and whatever problems it has, [Obama] owns,” Graham added.

“Didn’t Graham vote for the repeal?”

Nope. He got it right this time.

I think this is the point. Gays could already serve if they wanted. This was a victory for those who demand not just tolerance but approval--and a stern warning to anyone who will not give that approval.

Good point. This isn't a victory for live and let live. "Out of the closet" is an euphemism for in your face.

But we’ll have the Gay Berets getting training at Fort Dix. Doesn’t that count for anything?

Well, good for him, then.

What the hell was wrong with DADT??

Do they WANT to be able to flaunt their sexuality?

In my workplace if anyone talked openly about sex it wold be not be welcome, we wrote computer software NOT talk about personal issues

So..gays can serve already. Why do they need to openly talk abut it at work? And what percentage of population in the military is it anyway???

Thank you, but I think your reference concerns this morning's cloture vote in which he voted no.

The current vote is up or down on repeal of DADT and I'm pretty sure Ensign was an aye. I could have heard wrong, but that's the way I heard the lady record his vote.

“Most Americans, I think, hope it works out."

I hope it works out the the former policy gets re-instituted by Congress in 2013. Don't know if the public can get distracted form the glories of the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, NCAA, NASCAR, MTV, American Idol and Dancing with the Stars long enough to concern themselves with national morality.

Most Americans, I think, hope [allowing homosexuals to serve in the military and navy openly] works out. I certainly do. I think it is going to be problematic and whatever problems it has, [Obama] owns,” Graham added.
By extension would most Americans hope that allowing open pedophiles to teach in schools "would work out"? NO!

And that shows the utter moral ignorance and lack of common sense of Senator Graham in making his remark.

“So..gays can serve already. Why do they need to openly talk abut it at work?”

Why? To p-ss you off:

So you get steamed and say something in anger...in which case, it will be you receiving punishment (as well as “confirming” their beliefs that you are a “hateful bigot”). Or in the alternative, so that you just quietly walk away (and people start leaving the military/not joining), in which case they also gain control. Win/win for them.

Coming to military bases near you...

Obama won’t own it. Realize who we are talking about here. If it doesn’t go well it will be blamed on the “homophobic” military culture and right wing haters. Remember when AIDs first came on the scene? It wasn’t because the gay community was jumping from bed to bed to bath house. It was Reagan’s fault for not spending enough on research.

Horsecrap, Grahamnesty, you and the other RINOs own it. Do you honestly think the MSM will hold Obama accountable? What the *(&*)( are you smoking? You and the other Republicans had a Constitutional duty to oppose the lame duck session passing bills of this importance. The Consent of the Governed was withdrawn on Nov 2nd.
