The climate bugaboo is the strangest intellectual aberration of our age ( The SCAM )
The Telegraph ^ | 8:52PM GMT 17 Dec 2010 | By Viscount Monckton of Brenchley

Posted on 12/18/2010 2:07:26 PM PST by Ernest_at_the_Beach

Christopher Monckton says that perspective was sorely missing at the Cancun climate conference.

"But don’t you realise," said the bearded, staring enviro-zomb with the regrettable T-shirt, “that global cooling is what we must expect because of global warming?”

"Don’t you realise," I replied, "how silly that sounds? The lowest temperatures ever recorded here in Cancun six days in a row; four extreme winters on the trot in the Northern hemisphere; more people dying in one three-day cold snap in little England in 2002 than Oxfam pretends died of ‘global warming’ worldwide throughout 2010; where’s your perspective, man?"

Perspective, the Olympian capacity to see events as they affect not just us and our mates but everyone, and not just in the excitement of the present but sub specie aeternitatis, in the long, calm, kindly shadow of eternity: this has gone from what passes for education in the West.

The climate bugaboo, the strangest intellectual aberration of our age, rampages because in the me and now we have cast aside three once-universal forms of learning that gave us perspective: a Classical education, to remind us that in reason and logic there is a difference between true and false; a scientific education, to show us which is which; and a religious education, to teach us why the distinction matters.

With perspective, no one would waste a single second of his own time or a red cent of other people’s money trying, Canute-like, to make “global warming” go away.

Excellent. Once again, your choice of articles doesn’t disappoint.

Now we need to deal with the idiocracy just voted into office in California. Without pause, my first suggestion is to muster the 1st Marine Division out of Camp Pendleton, stand them shoulder-to-shoulder and march them north, destroying every eco-fascist scum found. I haven’t forgotten the Army. The 101st Airborne can take care of LA and Berkeley. San Francisco? That’s reserved for Naval bombardment. (Don’t we have an old battleship nearby?)

Of course you may have a better idea.

Antropogentic warming is about control and power. It is a scheme to control more of our life.

Except Canute's point was not that he could command the sea not to rise but the futility and foolishness of anyone thinking they could.

This is the age of the death of reason.

I blame dumbing down education.

People are so uneducated today (including many PhD's who claim to be scientists) that they cannot discern fantasy, theory, and or fact.

They cannot understand that computers and their programs give answers based on the data input as well as the human created program. GIGO is not understood.

For these "scientists", I think they probably do understand GIGO, but they are either so in love with grant money that they unethically cling to a false theory as fact, or they are the stupid anti-human intellectuals like Holdren.

As for many mind numbed idiots out here in the non-scientist society, many cannot understand GIGO or their daily life's challenges. They are so accustomed to accepting the word of scientists, computers, and (RAT) politicians as gospel, that they cannot think for themselves.

I think you are exactly right. Unfortunately. I think even many scientists engage in emotionally based magical thinking and everything else is filtered through that lens.

We live in a world with nuclear space-age technology but human beings aren't that much different than we were 40,000 years ago. Our limbic systems still put a lot of pressure on us to act on desires for ego-gratification.

If Professor Braindrain's wife likes the good life and/or is on the campus eco-committee he is going to be under both subtle and overt pressures to bring home the kind of bacon she likes.

Lenin once noted that "Everything is political".

And, if one is a socialist, it is. It's just one more article of faith.

Leftists define themselves by their politics. It's who they are. A socialist scientist cannot, in fact, be a scientist. His findings will invariably be informed by his politics.

As we have discovered to our dismay in the AGW "crisis"...

Leftists define themselves by their politics.

I would even say that most leftists define themselves only by their politics and that's another example of ego-gratification.

I would agree.

They really don't know how to react to something outside their experience...until they determine its political valence.

What really disturbs me about it is when the majority of people abandon reason that is a cause for rational people to go mad. It becomes a vortex of insanity that even the unwilling find hard to resist. In a kingdom of lunatics the sane man is the court jester.

That one would make a good tagline.

Now if we could just get the Goracle to host a 'summit' in late summer somewhere it would do some good. Houston, Dallas, somewhere blazing hot in August.

It comes down to this: To believe in the current vision of “climate change,” you have to believe that if 3/10,000 of our atmosphere is CO2 everything is hunky-dory and if 4/10,000 of our atmosphere is CO2 there will be hell to pay.

I’m not sure we’d be in trouble if 4/10,000 of our atmosphere was cyanide, much less CO2.
