Cop shoots, kills family dog (Golden Retriever)

A Clayton County mother of six said the family dog did what he always did when he saw someone. He barked.

But when "Boomer" started barking and running toward a police officer Saturday morning, the officer shot the dog and killed it, Lawrene King told the AJC Sunday night.

“He’s a golden retriever," King said. "He barks, but he’s never bitten anyone.”

A Clayton County police officer was on foot patrol on North Shore Drive when the dog jumped off a porch and started barking and running toward the officer, Capt. Tina Daniel said. The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard, Daniel said.

The officer, whose name was not released, was responding to a call reporting a suspicious person, police said.

“Uh, the dog was “confined” - to the yard.”

Was there a sign in the yard that said that an invisible fence was used?

And even if there was a sign, those fences ARE NOT 100% reliable in keeping dogs confined due to system fault, broken wire, or a dead battery.

“You are apparently part of the rabble who want a police state. An UnConstitionalist. A retarded, moronic, idiotic, feeble-minded Statist.”

Oh yeah, anyone who doesn’t join the bashing of any and all cops (and their families) just because they are cops are now UnConstitutionalists, and moronic, idiotic, feeble-minded retarded statists?

Grow up.

And FYI, not all cops are bad.

Sorry, I’ve had more important things to dwell on than animal restraints.

I have no idea what an “invisible fence” looks like or how well it works. Cops are under no more obligation to allow themselves to be chewed upon than regular people.

My mom delivered mail for almost 40 years...to hillbillies with mean “junkyard dogs” roaming loose on their property.

When she had to get out and take a package to the door, she threw dog cookies as far as she could, to the other side of the yard.

She couldn’t have run worth a hoot if she’d *had* to yet somehow, she never got bit.

Go figger.

The dog was a golden retriever!!!!!

Obviously you have never heard of the breed before, because you would understand just how assinine it is that anyone would be so afraid of a golden that they would have to shoot it.

Agree, if they're that afraid of dogs and unfamiliar with control methods they are in the wrong occupation. They need another job or should keep their butt in the car. I beginning to think there is something to this seemingly wanton dog killing. Perhaps they get an award as in Fido ace with a shiny button with a dog caricature crossed out. This self-protecting society is loosing its compliant citizen support base since they no longer officially “support, serve and defend”.

Cops should not be regularly shooting retrievers “defending” their own yard. Are cops part of the community or not?

“BTW, mailmen go door to door for a living...
How do they possibly survive without a gun and shooting dogs on a daily basis?”

Not very many of them actually walk their routes anymore.

Most drive their truck around mailbox to mailbox. and those who are “traditionalists” who walk the routes carry mace.

Yup.

They are on the “top ten list of dogs most likely to bite” yet generally, no one feels the need to blow their brains out.

I’m not defending the LEO, I have no idea what happened.

I do have a problem with people advocating for the release of information on this LEO’s family to teach him a lesson. Is this something you are comfortable with?

Lawsuits! Just like everybody else. The dogs learn to avoid letter carriers or they die at the hands of their owners.

They still can’t shoot straight unless it’s a dog?
I have seen two separate cop shootouts with bad guys, the amount of ammo expended by the cops that can’t shoot straight is tremendous.
Why is it one shot, they kill a dog but 200-300 to wound a rapist or murderer?

“Get your head out of the sand and join modern America.”

Sorry, I’ve spent the last 25+ years keeping bad guys and terrorists from murdering your family. Forgive me for not being a total Renaissance man.

It's your problem. You are not required to get mail at that address. Nor are you prohibited from mounting your delivery box on the curbline.

See, when you put the box on the house (or use a door slot) you are INVITING the carrier onto your property, so if he gets hurt ~ even slips on ice or a wet spot ~ you get sued. Best to keep your insurance up to date.

I don’t care to know anything about his family.

But this clown works for the public and his actions should be part of the public record.

He deserves to be named, scrutinized and, judging from the info so far, roundly condemned.

The dog charged the cop...

The dog ran across it's property. Unless it LEFT said property, it was no threat. Period. If you are not ON said property a dog not LEAVING said property is no threat.

Are you STILL having problems with this utterly simple calculus?

After being “conditioned” by the zaps, most dogs never venture beyond the perimeter, whether it’s on or off.

Invisible fences are, however, useless for sight hounds.

At close to 40mph, the dog is through the “fence” before the collar even has time to trigger.

There is no evidence that this family fell into the “idiot” category, otherwise, the dog would have been shot *off* their property.

Here is your original post:

“Well, ya see Cathy if this had been a citizen that shot this dog, the citizens name would be all over the papers and Internet....

People are getting really angry about law enforcement playing military and treating the rest of us like escaped enemy...

Know what I mean Cathy?”

Ok, so you sound “angry enough” and are posting in response to a call-out on releasing family info. So Dragnet, the “people” are really angry too - and there is a call to harrass this family (if there is one). Are you on “their” side? What is your remedy? I want to know what the “people” can do to “teach” this family, oops, I mean LEO a “lesson”. It’s a bit murky to me, but tell me what crosses the line.

You don’t know what an invisible fence is? You defend people ... with guns? You must be just another in the long line of neanderthal dog-murdering jackboots, then.

Haha.

Thanks for your service. For what its worth, I’d never heard of an “invisible fence”, either. Maybe you could use it on terrorists ... since it seemed to do such a good job on this golden retriever.

Just a thought, just throwin this out there,....
What would Jim's response be to a Freeper who happened to oh, say, LEARN this officer's name? Are we allowed to ‘out’ this kind of info? And yes, I mean doing it by hacking, if you're curious. Respectfully
