I’m with you. I don’t think a cop is required to wait to be bitten before defending himself against an attacking dog any more than he needs to wait to see if the gun is loaded. If your dog attacks (or appears to attack) someone, they can defend themselves. Keep your dog confined.
That being said — the anti-jack-booted-thug and my-puppy-is-my-baby crowd are going to gang-up on this one.

It was. Read it again. Dog was shot on it's owners property. If it had left the property, you'd have a point. As it is, you don't...
see my post #50.
Forget that the guy is cop for a minute. Assume it’s you walking down the street and a dog runs toward you. Do you freak out and shoot it? Or do you use a touch of common sense?
I’ve been around dogs all my life. I’ve never had to deal with a Pitbull, but I’ve faced just about every other breed, including Dobies and Shepherds. Most dogs just want you go let them identify you. It’s no big deal.
Of course, if you are a wuss, it might be a problem.
Uh, the dog was "confined" - to the yard.
You are apparently part of the rabble who want a police state. An UnConstitionalist. A retarded, moronic, idiotic, feeble-minded Statist.
an attacking dog? what are you talking about? who said the dog attacked anyone?
You better beilieve it, mister,
Look, bud, If cops are such WUSSES they fear Golden Retrievers they should find another line of work.
Incidentally, did either you, Stan, or your buddy Ollie see the words INVISIBLE FENCE in the article?
