Blogger gets 33 months for threatening judges

A right-wing New Jersey blogger has been sentenced to 33 months for making death threats against three federal judges in Illinois.

Hal Turner was sentenced today in Brooklyn federal court.

The case stemmed from the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in 2009 by three judges that upheld a district court decision dismissing lawsuits that challenged handgun bans in Chicago and Oak Park.

Turner protested the decision with inflammatory remarks posted on the Internet. Prosecutors said he crossed the line by declaring, "These judges must die."

If he had the gun in a case, and tickets to Chicago, that’d sound a lot like intent. With no intent, it's vapor crime. I honestly don't care if he provided pictures of the children of the judges, directions to their dear old granny who lives in the back woods, or whatnot. This is simply a method of usurping freedom of speech for political gains.

If they were serious, Al Franklin would be in jail right now. He's not. They're not.

You might be interested in knowing that this was the THIRD trial. The first two ended in mistrials after a majority found him not guilty, but it takes a unanimous vote. Bottom line, the government retried him over and over until he could no longer afford the attorney he had and of course the government was able to rework its case until it won. The lesson here is simple, if the feds want you, they get you, because even if they don't they try,try,try again until you break. The government's actions in this case are shameful and offend any reasonable sense of due process.

What he posted was much worse-- he posted the judges' home addresses, posted maps showing where they lived, and talked about another judge in Chicago who had recently been murdered. It was more than the usual hyperbole we see on FR.

Hmmmm. President Bush's address in both Washington DC and in Texas were well known. Indeed Cindy Sheehan and a whole group of folks stayed right outside Bush's Texas residence for many days. Why was noone in that group arrested? It appears to be a case of different rules for different political parties.

I'd listen to Turner's show from time to time and also checked in on his website.

He was entertaining, but it was pretty much all “Show” and no “Go”.

I know that he showed up at some skinhead and White Supremacist rallies, but past that, not much else happened.

Oh, and he did reveal at his trial that he was also a paid FBI informant and claimed that he was being set-up by the feds...

You cannot threaten judges, the President, or pretty much anyone else. Anybody with a lick of common sense should know this.

Show me the dirt bag POS husband of a battered woman rotting in jail for 33 months, because he told her on the phone that he was going to kill her. NO, when it is just us "cattle" being threatened, we are told that the police CANNOT DO ANYTHING. They wait until someone is attacked or dead. The best they do is take your money to file a restraining order.
