Russian lawmakers gave preliminary approval Friday to an arms agreement with the United States, but signaled they would slow progress on the so-called New START treaty to a crawl after it was rushed through Congress earlier this week with some 11th-hour arm-twisting by President Obama.

We really do need a Mitch Rapp! Have you read the latest book? If so, was it as good as the others?

It was very good; it had about a 50 page area I’d consider a little slow near the end...

A view from the [paranoid] other side:

New nuclear arms control treaty is a trap for Russia - Pravda, by Sergei Balmasov, 2010 December 24

All said, given the irrelevance of Russia's direct attack capabilities to the USA (they are much more dangerous as the sponsor and exporter of arms and technology - with over USD$10B in registered sales in 2010 - to rogue countries and regimes with the assymetrical attacks strategies) the treaty is more relevant as a political "win" for Obama (which was unnecessary) than as a real danger to the U.S. Some old nukes need to be and are being dismantled for the nuclear fuel (though REE thorium-232 is a far better long term breeding solution for the plants and much more cleaner and abundant in nature).

Stupid Party (GOP) strikes again, but it's more of a political capitualition than a strategic or military defense disaster than it could have been or as many portray it to be.

Fox's headline on the article now reads: Vice Admiral: Russia Trying to 'Heckle Us' by Stalling on START Treaty . LOL! I'd say they're not "trying" to heckle us, they've succeeded in heckling us.

I love this line in the article: "Medvedev said 'I told him: Barack, you have a rest now.'" That sounds exactly like what you'd say to your little lap dog as you dismiss him with a pat on the head: Good boy, Rover, go lay down now.

I don't think Ozero has the capacity to feel embarrassed, but we can only hope that at least a few of the RINOs who voted for this POS feel like the total and complete asses they really are.

That would be my take too.

“It’s just too good a deal for the U. S. for the Russians to accept.”

Bull! Even if Russia does sign on to the deal in time, it’s of note that they aren’t cramming it through in a matter of days without considering the ramifications.

“”head of the State Duma’s foreign affairs committee, said it would take until next month “at the earliest” for the treaty to receive its three required readings and get a final vote. Lawmakers’ vacation lasts until Jan. 11. “”

Gee whiz! Our legislators can’t even read a bill ONCE.

George Bush actually did a good job with savvy as POTUS and earned the respect of other sovereign nations as conveyed freely to the people.

Obama is earning the title of idiot and we along with other citizens of nations are coping with it until we have a true leader once again.

Alas, we could lose the freedom of speech because of federal commission dictate under this idiot.

Pray that the Dumas does not ratify START. Then it comes back to the US and we can dump it. This prez is an idiot, and we were snookered. This is a 1980’s type treaty, that Reagan would have dumped quick. We need to be able to expand our mobile launch capacity and not be hampered. The russians have the TOPOL mobile being deployed, and they may love this “treaty”.

[Russia is checking with Obama to confirm that he lied to the Republican RINOS that the treaty will not stop our missile defense program.]

You can't cash lies at the bank. I think it's more like diverting federal money to these states or the midnight hand off of a briefcase of cash in the parking garage.

"Thirdly, the agreement does not touch upon non-nuclear forces, the development of which may minimize Russia's possession of strategic arms. It goes about cruise missiles - hypersonic arms, first and foremost. Hypersonic missiles will make it possible to solve the goals, for which nuclear arms were built, albeit without the use of nuclear arms. A greater number of carriers, which Russia achieved, will not play any role at all. Hypersonic missiles with the range of 5,000 kilometers and flight speed of 3 kilometers per second will be capable of striking enemy's targets in mere minutes. The enemy will not even have time to make any decisions. Russia does not have such weapons, because all those programs were scrapped during Yeltsin's presidency. Russia lags far behind the United States at this point.

It's interesting that they would bring this up about the hypersonic cruise missile part and its supposed cancellation. Last I remember the Russians where still working in this area and already based on their strategic outlook. Hell they may already have something. I smell some misdirection going on here.
