Assange signs $1.5m book deal

WikiLeaks chief Julian Assange has said in an interview he had signed deals for his autobiography worth more than one million pounds(($A1.57 million).

Assange told Britain's Sunday Times newspaper that the money would help him defend himself against allegations of sexual assault made by two women in Sweden.

"I don't want to write this book, but I have to," he said on Sunday. "I have already spent 200,000 pounds for legal costs and I need to defend myself and to keep WikiLeaks afloat."

The Australian said he would receive the equivalent of $A800,000 from Alfred A. Knopf, his American publisher, and a British deal with Canongate is worth about $A500,000.

Money from other markets and serialisation is expected to raise the total to 1.1 million pounds, he said.

The latest project of Assange's whistleblower website is the gradual release of tens of thousands of US diplomatic cables.

Since this latest project began Assange, who is on bail in Britain fighting a bid by Sweden to extradite him over the sex assault claims, has faced problems financing WikiLeaks.

Credit-card companies Visa and MasterCard and the internet payment firm PayPal have blocked donations to WikiLeaks, prompting Assange to label them "instruments of US foreign policy".

Of course, the liberal media was going to give A**Sausage a big book deal. By the time his book is ever released, no one will care about A-Sausage to buy the book....he will be surpassed by some new Media-Darling Hacker

May it be leaked as it is written...

ABSOLUTELY! Delicious irony. Every blog on the Internet should postn leaked copies of every chapter, as it is being written.

To save the trees, of course/s.

I doubt we will hear anything in it other than “And I guess that is why yellow makes me sad”. But I want leaked so that no one buys the book, so the idiots backing it don’t get a single cent from their 1.5 mil...

It would be a shame if thousands of copies of it were defaced and made unsaleable in bookstores across America.

Bullshit! That little bastard should be dead. He along with the queer guy that gave him the secrets should have been removed from the living a long time ago. Once again that a**hole in the White House has screwed America.

Though there is an @sshole residing in the WH, you've got to consider this:

Assange is just a tool. The entire episode was just an Broadway act. Nothing substantial leaked. US intel knew everything that was going down. We've all been played by another false flag, so you're right - it IS "bullsh*t."

I suggest we all take up a collection and offer it to Julian for a copy of the Birth Certificate. I can’t believe he didn’t find it.

From the text:

I have already spent 200,000 pounds for legal costs and I need to defend myself and to keep WikiLeaks afloat.

The sum mentioned in pounds sterling is the equivalent to 308,000 US dollars. Apparently some of his devout supporters, one of whom appears with bland tones on television, do not go pro bono. Ah, lawyers! When the Canadian government had to wait two years to extradite the Air India bomber, he had been complicite in murdering 329 innocent souls. 1982, He fled to Birmingham, England. I understand over 15 million dollars have been spent on this man in legalities, though he is still in jail.

The lawyers must be smelling blood (money) here. Assange is the quintessential canting hypocrite. He only cares for Assange. The rest is, how much has he used dupes.? Manning is one and he will pay an awful price. As time evolves, how much Assange will eventually be used, by even more devious men than he? .

The lawyers will get most of that.

Agreed.

What’s a good name for Assange? One that won’t conflict with Rush’s “Leaky Leahy.” Miss/Ms. Leaky?
