MIAMI -- Five young men who police said died of carbon monoxide poisoning in a South Florida motel room were constant companions who acted like brothers and even went shoe shopping together before Christmas so they all would have the same pair, relatives said Tuesday.

How sad. A foolish error, and they’re all dead.

I’ve been aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide for so many years, I’m not really sure if I was fully cognizant of that danger at 17.
It seems about once a week in the winter I read of someone mishandling/using Kerosene heaters and gas generators. This story seems bigger because of the number of fatalities.

Even my real brothers and I never went shoe shopping togather. Guys who all want to wear the same shoes. OK ?.
To: Red Badger
five guys, one hotel room, no drugs, no alcohol, no women. Birthday celebration, matching shoes
I hate to speak ill of the dead but it sure does scream out gayboys to me.

The biggest tragedy is the loss of 5 lives and it is a shame that comments have to show little regard for this loss.

I fully expected a wide range of comments. For some reason the story just struck me as quite sad. That's five families that will have a hard time enjoying Christmas for a lot of years to come. The scary part is that I likely would have handled the car problem in much the same way.
Regardless of the victims my heart truly goes out to the families and friends.
re: shoe shopping together before Christmas so they all would have the same pair
At the risk of being a tad bit insensitive myself I've got to wonder how the five of them planned to wear a single pair of shoes. But that's much more a reflection on the p-poor journalism of today than the fate of these kids.

Hispanic street gang in Little Haiti, not gay. The gangs wear their gang’s particular shoe, colors of clothing, etc.
