Virginia Tech Survivor Is 'Living for 32' in War to Tighten Gun Laws

WASHINGTON -- Surviving the deadliest shooting massacre in U.S. history wasn't enough to make Colin Goddard an advocate for stricter gun laws. Only when he watched another rampage play out on TV two years later did the Virginia Tech graduate realize he had to speak out.

"That took me back to the day like none other," Goddard said of another troubled gunman who killed 14 at an immigration center in Binghamton, N.Y. "I was watching the body count rise and I was like, this is just the same stuff that is happening to another family now. ... I was like, I've got to get involved. I've got to do something about this."

What Goddard did was join the nation's largest gun-control organization, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. At first, he made public-service spots, speaking for the 32 people slain by a deranged gunman on the campus of Virginia Tech. But he also spoke for the 32 people killed every day in gun violence, people whose deaths don't conjure a million hits on Google.

LOL, like he thinks he's the new Jim Brady are something. This same punk went from hell to high water campaigning for his messiah two years ago, so I think I'll preach to the choir and add "so much for his opinion then".

Maybe someone should tell him that it is already illegal to shoot people.

He’ll end up being another bitter non-entity like Tom Mauser the Columbine dude.

What happened sucked, but they just can’t catch a clue.

But they never consider what would have been averted if the good guys could have been armed and have resisted. Blinded and deluded are the only words that come to mind that are printable.

But I thought Virginia Tech was a gun-free zone already? Such a thing couldn’t have happened there or it would imply that banning guns simply doesn’t work... /s

Classsic illustration of the fact that crediting "victims" with special wisdom or knowledge is a stupid, destructive, and unethical practice.

Twisted by his own experience, this stooge has no business polluting the discourse with his own hysterics. He should go get on a couch, work out his issues, and rejoin the human race.

RE “But I thought Virginia Tech was a gun-free zone already?”

Just being illegal wasn’t good enough. We need to make it MORE illegal!

Gun control is kinda like trying to solve drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to own cars.

But that’s the government way... somebody craps their pants in Mongolia and we all have to wear diapers.

Young Colin Goddard hasn't learned how to think yet and, apparently, a trial by fire didn't help.

Were he a researcher/scientist, I suspect he'd be one who seeks only data that supports his emotions and theory instead of simply seeking good data.

Maybe if he was man enough he would have pulled out a weapon and defended his friends and himself. Why take that right away from men that would at least defend themselves.

Why do every anti gun nut think that eliminating guns from the face of the Earth will lead to anything but rule of the biggest and strongest dude on the block?

How do you protect yourself from two or three guys out to really harm you?

“Colt made us equal” is one of the 3 enduring truths in this world, at least in part.

Colin Goddard an advocate for stricter gun laws.

Colin we here in VA laugh at you and have made our gun laws more common sense than ever as people can carry in restaurants and bars. We need to get rid of the ridiculous law that got your friends killed. Go do something more productive with your life you loser.

Brady....immigration center....

The Ft. Hood shootings were worse, but that didn't inspire him?

May I ask if Mr. Goddard is receiving any compensation for joining the Brady Center?
