BTW, the new bulbs are 5 or 6 times the cost, they are very short living ... and are super toxic when tossed in the trash.

It’s been my experience that halogen bulbs get dangerously hot. I’ve replaced all of my halogens with toxic twisties, but still use real light bulbs when appropriate.

I can see a market for light bulb stores on the California/Nevada border, and on Indian reservations.

Follow me on this, please.

I live in the Alaskan Bush, about 300 miles west of Fairbanks. One of the things we’ve done here is construct a root cellar - actually an above-ground shed with an open floor, covered with dirt. It works well. The temps can be 30 below outside and 35 above inside.

We moderate the temperature using a simple incandescent light bulb. It works well.

In fact, it works so well that a lot of the earthies and other sustainable agriculture people are looking at it as an easy and inexpensive way to provide refrigeration out here, where electricity can sometimes run 90 cents a kilowatt hour and getting a fridge can take months on a barge. Right now we have potatoes, cabbages, carrots, turnips - as well as yogurt, cheese, and eggs from town, in long-term storage.

Except our beneficient federal overlords are about to ban the incandescent light bulb.

So they want to save energy, cut costs, and lower the “carbon footprint,” as it were. Except their regulations say otherwise out here.

Whatta bunch of f***ing idiots. And that understates it.

What’s the penalty for bulb-running?

I have 2 flood lights behind the house, one is regular incandescent and the other is CFL. Both are 100 watt and the CFL really looks anemic when compared to the incandescent, up close and at a distance.

Kiss your freedom goodbye too... or you can get smart and remarket the old 100 watt bulbs as “heat lamps” or “glow bulbs” LOL

I predict that in a short time the last thing that those in CA will be concerned about is light bulbs. The state is financially floundering, taking on water and she's going down.

I just replaced my fourth “long life” mercury laden bulb in my chandalier over the table. They just stop working. You can tap them for a while to get them to come back on, but soon they peter out.

It’s the environmental-industrial-government complex, not the military industrial complex, Ike.
