Personally, I think the Donald would stand a very good chance of getting elected.

And no matter what, I think one of the most important qualities of a presidential contender is a I-ain’t-gonna-take-any-of-yur-crap!! attitude.

But you have to admit there is a LARGE proportion of FReepers who say “If it isn’t ________, it’s not a TRUE conservative!!!”

Fill in the blanks. Romney, Huckabee, whoever.

And I HATE IT when one person says “Well, you don’t agree with me on EVERY PARTICULAR DETAIL. So you’re just a RINO! Not a true conservative!”

Is it any wonder that we, as a movement, are so fractured?

Face it, the dems will always present a stronger unified opposition, because their basic philosophy s “anything goes”. And as long as they all agree with that, they are united.

He is kinda rambling.

That is important.

I was watching some of his clips on youtube today about china, opec, obama, manufacturibg, etc and he really gets it

My doctor watched when Trump was on some newscast and he described it to me using the same words as yours 'he really gets it'.

I think he would be VERY strong on imports and US manufacturing. I also think he would have alot of insights and ideas on the immigration issue.

But I fear he would trip up on something like abortion, and be banished persona-non-grata on FReerepublic.

Once again, the whole “If you don’t agree with me on EVERYTHING, you’re not a TRUE CONSERVATIVE!!!

My #1 rule when I judge a candidate is what was their position in their last position of power. I am uninterested in any change of heart that came after they left office. This goes for Romney, Palin, Huckabee, Gingrich etc.

If Palin supported McCain’s economic policies (some of which were decent, some less so), she will have to answer for that. I’m interested in knowing how a candidate has done when the pressure was on, which usually only happens in positions of power.

Well he isn’t big gov’t, a career politician or a people pleaser (you’re fired!) ;) All pluses, IMO.

You do realize that in this 2008 video Trump put Palin and Crist in the same sentence?

They all do. All the politicians do.

But I kind of have this feeling: If you went to listen to Trump, you would hear him say the things he believed in.

You would not hear him say things that he would say just because they were the kinds of things that particular crowd wanted to hear.

you’re kidding, right? How many businesses has he led into failure and bankruptcy? How many billions of dollars has he lost for his investors? This guy excels at taking other people’s money and losing it while somehow managing to retain enough capital to finance his own larger than life image and lifestyle. IMO, he represents the worst of what the Republican party has to offer America, not the best.

I think that is a very wise approach.

We have seen most all of them put their fingers in the air when the chips are down.
