LITTLE ROCK – A pair of would-be robbers are in the hospital following an attempted armed robbery at a grocery store on Colonel Glenn Road.

Police were called to Joe's Grocery Store at 12223 Colonel Glenn Road just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Two men who were attempting to rob the store were shot in the chest and in the leg by the clerk and owner of the business.

According to a police report, the robbers pulled a gun and were taking money from the register, when the clerk pulled out a .357 handgun and shot both men. The suspects have not been identified.

While fleeing the store, the men dropped the stolen money and their handgun, and sped away in a maroon Oldsmobile, hitting a fence in the process.

A short time later, police responded to the intersection of Colonel Glenn and Interstate 430, where the men had summoned an ambulance to transport them to the hospital.

Little Rock Police Lt. Terry Hastings says the owner of the store does not face charges related to the shootings at this time, and that the prosecuting attorney's office will ultimately decide if any charges will be filed.

Hastings says it is his opinion that the store owner was within his rights to shoot the men, because they had a gun pointed at him.

Hastings added that an investigation is underway to determine if the men have been involved in other recent robberies.

"We've had some other robberies around Christmas, before and after, that were two individuals that match this description. So we'll definitely be looking at that as well as some other factors that I'm not able to reveal at this moment", Hastings said.

No one inside the business was injured in the attempted robbery.

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/STATON BREIDENTHAL Police and paramedics prepare to transport one of two suspects Wednesday morning after they were reportedly shot by a grocery store owner during a robbery attempt in Little Rock.

Good shooting citizen! Civilization thanks you! Now get some more range time and buy a .45 ACP!

This story isn't nearly as a good ending as 2003 when a star-football player in Central Arkansas robbed "Bubba's bait, bullets, and beer".

Ole Bubba plugged the kid as he walked in to rob the place. DRT with a .45 ACP hole in his chest.

I concur on the “good shooting” but what is a .45 ACP?

Actually the .357 has a better 'one shot stop' rating than the venerable .45. I'll chalk this one up to shot placement.

And I'll not fault the store owner in the least. He did well under very stressful circumstances.

“I concur on the “good shooting” but what is a .45 ACP?”

A .45 ACP is a .45 caliber Automatic Colt Pistol. OFten it is a 1911 model, like those issued to soldiers for many decades.

Make sure to use hydra-shock or corbon or some other hollow-point next time.

I used to own a .357. Haven’t owned a gun for awhile. I’m about to buy another. I was thinking of a .357. Obviously you recommend a .45 ACP. It’s been awhile and I forget the arguments pro and con between those two weapons. And in my life, there’s a new wrinkle. Now I’m married. Before I wasn’t. So I’m buying this gun for 2 people, not just one. Any thoughts?

That's right. He's alive, and the perps are down. Combat is an iffy proposition no matter what weapons you bring to it.

Get a Glock model 22 semi-auto pistol in .40 S&W.
If your wife has small hands or dislikes the big bang, step down to the 9 MM.

The firearm above your last post is one of the finest home defense/personal defense weapons ever made. I love wheel guns, and I can use both .38 spl and .357 mag.

I also can use the ammo in my lever action rifle.

Try out whatever gun fits you, and you can consistantly and accurately shoot (and the Ms.).

My wife has a Model 640, but uses .38SPL from Gold dot as her carry ammo. She also has a Glock 10mm for her "heavy days".

Please look carefully at picture above. Look at suspects feet. Notice his pants and underwear around his ankles. Note blood in underwear. Notice suspects face? Looks like cockshot to me... .Tough guys never think about their d!ck getting blown off by a 357 before they walk in. Oh well, took care of the pro creation problem.

Called a little too soon IMHO.

Based on the picture of the perp (whose pants are pulled down to his shoes), it appears that the store owner got him somewhere below the waist.
