Report rips IRS 'torment' of taxpayers
Politico ^ | 1/6/11 | Jennifer Epstein

The IRS is tormenting struggling taxpayers in the midst of the nation’s economic woes, the agency’s internal watchdog charged in a scathing report released Wednesday. Nina Olson, the national taxpayer advocate, charged that the Internal Revenue Service is increasingly using “hard-core” tactics such as liens to enforce tax laws, creating needless misery for taxpayers. The agency crackdown is “inflicting unnecessary harm” on hardworking Americans — even to the point of “torment,” Olson said in her report sent to Congress on Wednesday. Though she has flagged aggressive IRS liens in previous annual reports,

I can remember one 60 minutes depicting the IRS taking peoples’ dogs for taxes owed.

The IRS seriously needs to be checked.

Could this report have anything to do with the recent news about Rep.Michele Bachmann possibly making a run for the presidency?

Seriously.

She once was a tax attorney, and I'm curious if the nature of her work might unfortunately constitute excess negative political "baggage"???

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michele_Bachmann

"....From 1988 to 1993, Bachmann was a U.S. Treasury Department attorney in the US Federal Tax Court located in St. Paul. According to Bachmann, she represented the Internal Revenue Service "in hundreds of cases"[7] (both civil and criminal) prosecuting people who underpaid or failed to pay their taxes.[8] She left her government position to become a full-time mother.[9]"

Any thoughts?

“Tax collection requires a delicate balancing of the government’s interest in collecting revenue and ensuring that all taxpayers pay their fair share of tax, on the one hand, and protecting financially struggling taxpayers from unnecessary harm, on the other,” Olson said. “Current IRS policies do very little balancing.”

Ensuring that all taxpayers pay their fair share of tax? As Dave Ramsey has said, if, instead of withholding, Americans had to withdraw cash and take it to the IRS office to pay their taxes there would be a revolution when they visibly had to face the reality of how much the government thinks belongs to them. Taxation in America has reached the level of institutionalized theft.

We will be hearing lots more screaming soon. Our dear leader has hired a new army of auditors and tax examiners with the goal of shaking down small businesses.

"No sir. CONGRESS and the EXECUTIVE is tormenting us. The IRA is just the tool of the executive as authorized by congress! Target your anger where it belongs."

This is true, but only partially. Some congressmen and even senators have done prison time for large scale tax evasion, just not usually when a President of their own party is in power. But the Obama Politburo will crack down on average citizens as never before seen in America. The hiring of 16,000 new IRS agents ought to be enough evidence of that. And these 16,000 "agents" likely won't be selected from a pool of former Boy Scouts who graduated from a Christian academy. They will likely be Obamite thugs who are the type of soul less human waste that enjoy tormenting people.

Hey, the entire government is corrupted, and there's not a soul out there who doesn't know it. When there's enough pain out there the sheeple will respond. Right now the economic pain is still being blamed on Bush and the morons still believe Barak Hussein Mugabe is the doctor with the cure. Wait till they open their eyes and find out. The Greeks went insane and burned some cities and banks, but they never had that much to lose in the first place. Americans are losing much more than the Greeks or the French, hence there will be that much more anger out there in the streets. Unless, of course, the new Republican Congress will do what they were elected to do, oppose Obama at each and every turn and bring freedom back to Americans. It's the loss of freedom that will make Americans angry, (to put it mildly), not so much the loss of money.

Yikes, Nachum.... you must be exceptionally psychic -- LOL! Just last night I was explaining to a younger relative that the only truly safe way to navigate today's reality at large is to PRESUME that people are out to "getcha!", that everyone should be considered a rip-off until PROVEN otherwise, LOL, to be exceptionally cautious & circumspect to the degree of paranoia where anything financial is as stake.

LOL

I’ve been preparing taxes for 27 years, and I’ve never seen anything like the IRS the last few years.

If a businessman tried to run his business like the IRS runs its, he’s be in jail.
