On Wednesday, newly installed Rhode Island governor, Lincoln Chafee rescinded an executive order put in place by his predecessor, Gov. Donald Carcieri which ordered state agencies and their vendors to use the E-verify system to screen-out illegal aliens for employment.
Gov. Chafee also ordered the Rhode Island State Police to stop participating in the federal 287(g) program which allowed them direct access to an immigration database when they suspect an arrestee to be in the country illegally.
The program has proven very successful in identifying and reporting illegal aliens to federal authorities.
Immediately after signing the order, Chafee said: “My view is that Rhode Island can grow economically by being a tolerant place to do business. The immigrant-rich areas, I want to see them prosper, and they need it.’’

Lincoln Chafee just became the RI governor. I have NO IDEA how that happened.

If he wants RI to be a “tolerant” place to do business, he should start by lowering taxes to the bone.......
He would think twice about doing this if his state were on the front line and not neatly tucked away in the NE.
Just like my dogs eat puke and turds, things like Chafee just keep coming up and around again and again, from both ends. It is sad, but they have no where else to go.
It is just RI, who gives a spit anyhow...? Everyone has to be somewhere, and many are simply stuck where they are.

I think this is GREAT! Now RI will be a HAVEN for all the illegals that States like AZ, SC, OK and others run out! They can HAVE them! And the majority of citizens in RI need to remember, they VOTED for that idiot Chafee, so they are getting JUST what they voted for. Don’t ask the rest of us to bail your butts out. Don’t like it? Vote his butt out next election, or impeach him for gross incompetence. Until then, SHUT UP.
